A/N So our dear and beautiful Anon requested fluff, guys, I give you fluff. Enjoy my darlings!!! xxx
(y/n/n) = your nickname :)
Summary: A nice evening with your childhood best friend reveals feelings the both of you were trying to deny for a long time.
A beautiful sunny day was the one that was shining above London. You had your chin in your hand as you gazed out of the window as your dad drove to the house of your best friend to have a picnic with his parents and yours as they were very close friends.
Your mind wandered to the last time you saw him, today it had been exactly a month since you hadn’t seen your best friend since childhood so to say you were excited was beyond words.
The ride to the house you knew too well was so long, or at least that’s how you felt it. Suddenly, the car stopped in front of the big and familiar house you’d spent a lot of time in since childhood.
You stepped out of the car as your parents did the same, you were carrying a bottle of wine while your mum had the rest of the food. Just as you were about to ring the doorbell, the door opened just to reveal Wanda and Tim. The parents of Benedict, your best friend.
“(y/n), dear! It’s so good to see you again!”
Said Wanda as she hugged you tightly, you obviously hugged her back
“It’s so good to see you guys too.”
When you separated from her embrace, Tim hugged you instead as his wife went to welcome your parents.
“We brought some wine for the picnic.”
You said, after you said hello to Tim as you held the bottle in the air. The older man took it from you with a soft smile.
“Thank you (y/n). Ben is waiting for you in the garden.”
Your heartbeat quickened at the mention of Benedict. When you were fifteen years old, you realised that you felt something more powerful than just friendship for him but you never said a word, afraid that he wouldn’t reciprocate you and the beautiful friendship you two had for years would turn into something awkward, something irreversible.
“Do you mind if I go and greet him?”
You asked politely. Timothy chuckled slightly
“You don’t have to ask, (y/n). You know this is your house too.”
You smiled at his words and entered the rather familiar house. Your (e/c) eyes travelled all over the living room, all the pictures that adorned the place brought a smile to your lips as most of them were of you and Ben as babies, then as children and finally, as teenagers.
“You’ve grown since I last saw you, (y/n/n).”
You turned around at the sound of your best friend, locking eyes with him as a soft smile graced your lips
“Hello to you too, Ben.”
You said before he walked over to you, now standing next to you in front of the fireplace where you were admiring all the pictures of you two.
The both of you were staring at the pictures as if in some sort of a trance, which was broken when he heard voices near the main entrance. Benedict grabbed your hand in his, making a faint blush paint your cheeks.
“Come with me, I want to show you something.”
You nodded at him, not wanting your voice to fail you at that moment as he led you to the backyard. Another place that you know way too well. The soft breeze made your (h/c) hair fly slightly as your dress also moved with the sweet wind. You were wearing a nice pink dress, off the shoulder and it was very comfortable.
Ben led you through the garden, never letting go of your hand as you two deepened in the backyard.
When your eyes caught sight of his little surprise, you couldn’t help the smile that adorned your face.
“Benedict.” you whispered in pure surprise at what he had prepared for the both of you.
There, beneath a large tree laid a soft, white blanket with different types of food over it, there were also some cups of tea with their respective teapot and all. Shining cutlery was neatly placed along with fruit in cubes, sandwiches and pastries.
“I hope you like it.”
he said, scratching his neck nervously. You blushed slightly and looked down to your feet, trying to hide your rosy cheeks.
“Of course I like it, it’s beautiful.”
You said, keeping your eyes glued to the floor. Then, you felt how he pulled you over to sit on the soft blanket that laid on the freshly cut grass. Once the two of you were sitting on the blanket, Ben prepared you a cup of tea firstly before making one for himself.
Taking a sip from it, you smiled in the cup as it was just how you liked it.
“May I ask, why the mini-picnic?”
You questioned, making him chuckle slightly.
“I just wanted to make something special for you,” There it was, your faint blush painting your cheeks once more. “You are my best friend.” And there it was, the sound of your heart shattering when he said friend. Reminding you that he would only see you as a friend.
A sad smile adorned your lips and Benedict was quick to notice your change in demeanor. He pulled some cupcakes from the cute basket that was between the both of you.
“My mum made some carrot cupcakes.”
He said, handing you one cute cupcake with white frosting, you smiled up at him, this time, a genuine smile as the previous thought vanished from your mind.
“Thank you! You know I love these ones.” you said before eating the pastry with the cup of tea.
Once you both finished eating the cupcake and drank most of the tea in the small cup, a satisfied sigh escaped your lips as you cherished this moment with your best friend.
“I’ve missed this, Ben… this time we spent together.”
You said in a soft voice. “I’ve missed it too… and, well, I’ve missed you.”
At his words, you lowered your gaze, smiling like an idiot “I’ve missed you too, Ben.” he smiled at you at your words. The curly haired boy stared at you as you kept your gaze low, as if finding the cup of tea in your hands very interesting all of a sudden.
Little did you know that Benedict, despite having many girls from school practically begging him to go out with him, had fallen for his best friend.
He loved that he knew you too well and that you knew him too, maybe even better than himself. He liked how kind and polite you were with everyone, even if they didn’t deserve your kindness. You were a walking ray of sunshine that illuminated Ben’s life since childhood.
And today, he couldn’t wait another day without you knowing his true feelings towards you. Benedict was ready to pour his heart and soul to you, more than he had already done. He was ready to take the risk of you not loving him back or for you to reciprocate his feelings.
“(y/n).” he called, putting his hand on top of yours, making you look him directly in the eye, drowning in his mysterious pair of orbs as they never stayed in the same colour.
“Yes?” you asked, your voice sounded as if you were in a trance, staring at your best friend whom you grew to love.
Ben took a deep breath, trying to hold onto the confidence he built all morning only to find it was slipping through his fingers.
“There’s something I need to tell you.”
You felt how your heartbeat quickened, your eyes were locked with his as he thought of the perfect words to say.
“Listen, (y/n/n)... I… I want you to know that… gosh, how do people do this.” you chuckled at the last part of his sentence, even though he muttered it, you were quick to catch his words. Ben took a deep breath, and said:
“(y/n), I want you to know that… that you are the kindest person in the world, the most intelligent and beautiful girl that has ever stepped foot on Earth.”
A deep blush came to your cheeks, making you look down when he said the word beautiful. Then, you felt how Benedict lifted your chin with his fingers, now being much closer than before.
“You are, (y/n). You are beautiful and I’m lucky to have you as my best friend.”
A smile was growing on your face at his words “I’m lucky to have you too, Ben.” he chuckled before turning towards the basket trying to find something.
Ben faced you again, this time holding a little box in his hand while the other was still on top of your hand.
Was he going to propose? No, that’d be absurd, (y/n)! control yourself!
You mentally screamed at yourself at these thoughts as you were only seventeen.
“I want to promise you something.” you broke free from your trance at his words, now focusing completely on Ben as he let go of your hand and opened the box only to reveal a beautiful ring in rose gold with two little diamonds that complimented the main stone which was shaped in form of a heart.
“I actually spent all my money on this,” you laughed at this, mirroring his smile “You didn’t have to.” you said, now paying all your attention to the ring “Well, my dad paid half of it. Anyways, I want to promise you… that I will always be there for you as you had been there for me throughout my life. I want you to know, (y/n), that you are one of the most important people in my life and that this ring is the symbol of my friendship… and… and the love I held for you.”
Your (e/c) eyes watered slightly at his words as never, in your entire life, has someone ever said something as significant like Ben’s words.
“Because I love you, (y/n). I’ve loved you for some time now and seeing as this is our last year of school, I wanted you to know that.”
He put the ring in your middle finger, it fitted perfectly, not too tight nor too loose, it was just perfect. You just stared in shock at the ring that was now wrapped around your finger. Did this actually happen? You questioned yourself, not being able to take your eyes off the ring.
On the other hand, the silence was killing Ben, were you going to accept him? Were you going to walk away? Do you feel the same? Hence, he felt as if the world could swallow him at any moment as every second that passed, he started to lose hope of you reciprocating his innocent love.
But then, the sun seemed to shine brighter, the birds seemed to sing louder, the moment that was already beautiful turned into a perfect one as he heard your words “I love you too, Ben.”
A plethora of immense emotions wrapped his soul as the petals of your love grew in his heart. Benedict now understood when people referred to someone deeply in love as a lovesick teenager as the emotions were too much, it was all too much to handle in one day as he discovered you, his best friend, the one he had loved since you two were twelve, loved him back.
Ben didn’t waste another second to kiss you, something he wanted to do since he saw you walk through the door of his house. You obviously kissed him back. It was for both of you, your first kiss and you couldn’t be happier it was with Benedict as he couldn’t be happier it was with you.
Neither of you noticed that you two were being watched by your parents as well as Ben’s parents “You owe me ten pounds, Wanda.” said your mum to her friend as she handed the money to her. “And you owe me twenty pounds, (y/f/n)” said Tim. Your dad cursed under his breath as he handed him the money.
“Should we call them? The food is ready for the picnic.” asked your mum “No, let them be. They have food for themselves.” replied Tim.
Meanwhile, you both separated from the kiss. gazing into each others’ eyes “You are a great kisser.” you said in a low voice. Ben chuckled at you before he saw, from the corner of his eyes, your parents and his looking at them from one of the windows of the first floor. “Our parents are watching,” he murmured.
You smiled at him “Then, why don’t we give them a demonstration of how to kiss properly?”
Benedict smiled at you adoringly “You don’t have to say it twice, love.” and with that, you two kissed again as every emotion was poured into the moment your lips connected with his, as if the world around you disappeared and it was just you and Ben forevermore.
