A Cute Story About My Cousin - Kingdom Hearts II
So my cousin, who is 4, flew in from Florida a couple of days ago with my aunt and uncle, who are his parents. They are currently staying with my grandma and grandpa. Anyway, he looks up to me like I'm his big brother and wants to do everything with me. It's cute, but what happens next made me start to cry.
So he came over my house yesterday with his mom and they stayed for dinner. We were downstairs in the basement playing a Wii game that he brought with him (LEGO Batman I think), and we were having a good time. Well, he was. We only had one remote.
Being a 4 year old, he got bored pretty quickly. So he asked me if I had any cool games. I showed him what I had for the Wii but he still seemed uninterested. Then, he got up and went to the closet. He didn't even know what was in there, but I did. My old PS2. He pulled it out and asked:
I plugged it into the TV and I started it up. That nostalgic feeling when I turned it on and saw the main menu was incredible. So the game I had in loaded. It was Kingdom Hearts II. I decided to start a new game with him and I handed him the controller. He played for about 10 minutes, which really is just cutscenes in the beginning, but soon got bored again. I asked him if he wanted to see how it ended.
"That would be cool," he replied.
So I restarted it and I loaded up my save slot of LVL 99 Sora. I explained to him what happened, very briefly of course. I told him about Organization XIII and Nobodies, Heartless, Kingdom Hearts, The Darkness, Keyblades, etc. His eyes glistened with excitement.
The game finally loaded and I was at the part right before you fight Xemnas. The first thing he noticed was Mickey, and he shrieked with joy. He loves Disney, so I knew he would love this game. I gave him the controller but he shook his head.
"Justin, I want to watch you do it."
He sat down on the couch and pointed to the TV.
"Go show 'em whose boss!"
So I walked up the the door in the game dramatically to build suspense and I clicked on the door.
"Can you read it aloud to me?" he asked.
"Sure," I replied, and I read out the speech bubble with the two options.
I chose the one that I knew lead to the fight, and I began the long epic finale. He was fairly quiet during the game. He was so captivated by the visuals and the music and the sounds. He sat there watching as I made my way to Xemnas, Occasionally, he made a shout of "Watch out!" or "Get 'em! Hit 'em!"
After I "beat" him (spoiler alert, he is not dead), my cousin was relived and said:
"I thought we were gonna lose that one!"
As the cutscene progressed and the characters left the final boss area and then Xemnas reveals himself not dead, he quickly became alarmed.
"What's going on? I thought everything was going to be okay!"
I already knew what was going to happen, and I just thought "chill kid, I got this shit." So the battle began on the flying ship thing where you shoot lasers at him and after I beat him, he rejoiced and said "You got him! We win!"
Then the cutscenes showed Xemnas morphing into the armor form of him, and he quickly hushed up and sat back on the couch, clenching a pillow.
When Xemnas said things like "Sora, are you sure you can trust Riku?" my cousin was all like "Sora and Riku are friends! You can't win!"
I easily beat him, and then he asked:
The cutscene began. Now the final battle starts. He was in awe at the whole beginning part when you use Reversal to dodge his attacks. It was so amazing to watch his reaction. The battle continued, comments continued as well.
"Look out for his lasers!"
Then the part when Sora gets trapped by Xemnas and Riku has to save him. He was all like:
"Oh no! Save him! Save Sora!"
"It can't end like this, Light must prevail!"
Then you free him, and the battle continues.
The laser ball part came next and he was just so...wow, it was amazing to watch him. He started swinging his arms around like he was Sora and Riku. Then when I finally beat him, I turned to him and said:
Now, if you have not seen the Kingdom Hearts II ending, let me say it is quite emotional. Everyone is finally at home again and the journey is finally complete. But before that, Riku and Sora get trapped in the realm of darkness.
We both sat down and watched as Riku and Sora talked on the beach. Then the final ending sequence began. Sora read Kairi's letter, and he started to get teary. Then the door to light opened.
He got up and shouted: "The light!"
At this point, my aunt came downstairs with my mom and sister.
Then Sora and Riku went through and back to Destiny Islands, and the song began. When Sora was hugging Donald and Goofy, he was just all smiling and all happy. Then Sora approached Kairi.
They grabbed each others hands and the credits rolled.
My cousin turned to me and he was crying a lot at this point. He hugged my leg. I didn't know what to do so I just rubbed his head. Then he went to his mom, who was actually getting teary just watching us. They left about 10 minutes later. He was pretty tired, but man, it was too damn cute watching him watch me play that game.
