Is it okay to date at a young age? Specifically 16 and below
The real question to ask do you want to start dating and why? Are you wanting to start dating because everyone around you seems to be doing so, or is it because something about the person you’re interested in makes you feel good and warm inside? Do you want to explore those feelings? If you answer yes to the latter two questions I would say it’s a good as a time as any to try. I myself started dating between the ages of 15 and 16, though admittedly I had crushes as young as when I was 12.
As for my opinion, I feel there isn’t really a right age to start dating as people mature at different rates. However, I personally think nothing below 15 is an appropriate age but that’s because of my personal experience. So really, this is a question that you shouldn’t hide from your parents or guardians. You’re still a minor and they are responsible for you. I’d have a heart-to-heart with them and see what their opinions are. Who knows? They might be on board with the idea. Whether they do or don't the point is, ultimately you have to choose for yourself…
If you do choose to start dating heed my advice…
Date a person because you’re interested in them, not because of what other people tell you. They aren’t going to be dating them so it’s none of their business who you choose to get close with.
The same goes if they tell you should date someone and you feel that you’re not interested in a certain person, don’t give in to peer-pressure. Again, it’s your time and your life. They might’ve had good intentions but ultimately it’s your choice to heed their opinions.
Don’t date alone, (one-on-one) for your first couple of dates. Go out together in a group of mutual friends. This will make it less awkward at the start and if things go bad, you’ll have your friend(s) there to help you out.
