the difference between my mom getting a new stocking with my name embroidered on it and my dad hanging one up with my deadname front and center is really hitting rn
mmm but i do love the idea that asgardians have different gestures that are really significant to them, and having a slightly different idea of intimacy?
so firstly like, handshakes aren’t really a thing - i think that instead of handshakes, you’re going to be seeing something more akin to the original motion the handshake evolved from. the right hands go out, and you grasp tightly at one another’s forearm - this is an ancient gesture of greeting, and it shows really obviously that you don’t have a dagger hidden in your sleeve, and nor does the other guy, which means you can be friends.
THEN i actually love that we see a lot of thor doing this to loki - grasping the side of the other person’s neck, with your thumb against their jaw. this is super, super intimate, because you can feel the pulse of someone’s blood under your hand, but it also holds the other person in place.
i really like the natural continuation to this movement as well, where each of you has your hand on the other person’s neck, and you lean in close together, so that your foreheads are touching - brushing the noses or the foreheads together is a big gesture of intimacy, but especially when coupled with the grounding touch to the neck like
especially for a warrior culture like the AEsir, i love the idea that a lot of the most intimate gestures are ones where you’re basically showing that you trust the other person isn’t armed?
and especially bc unlike midgard, asgard values family connections more than it values specifically romantic ones, so the way you show intimacy and an emotional connection in public with your brother or your children or a close friend could very well be the same way you show it with a spouse.
asgard has very different values to midgard, and i really love exploring the way those values manifest themselves in like, the smaller cultural elements of the society

This is a song co-written and sung by my good friend, Dalken Starbyne: http://www.youtube.com/user/dalkenstarbyne
Backup vocals provided by Metal-Mare.
Glow
Lyrics:
It's in your heart
It's in your mind
It's in your soul
And what you leave behind
So plant it now and see it grow
The bloom of kinship that you sew
From gentle acts and loyal pacts
As they cast away that darkened gloom
Watch and learn from what they do
Mistakes are made
That's how we grow
It's a common process don't you know
So get back up
You'll make it to
The shelter where I once met you
Inside is where you need to look
Every cranny, every nook
But you're the author
So write that book
The story that you always knew
Write it now and see it flow
The tale of friendship that you show
It may be fate or a moment's wait
As we cast a glow across the room
Don't squabble over petty things
See the beauty that your kindness brings
It might seem cheesy
But it's really easy
You know it to be true

This song, "Generosity", is another foray into the big 80's. Another big thanks to Metal-Mare, who continuously astounds me with her vocal prowess.
Generosity (Oh, that's me)
Lyrics (full of only the cheesiest of cheese):
[Verse 1]:
Out on the floor... I am the dean
My rockin' body is the best that you've seen.
My voice is strong... to share my dream,
But that's not all, d'you know what I mean?
[Verse 2]:
In my business... I am the queen.
All my competitors... faces are green.
But I'd give it up... for a friend in need.
I'd give until I tear out the seams.
[Pre-Chorus]:
(Oh-Oh-) Yeah, don't you know you're a star?
(Oh-Woah-) Come on and tell us who you... really are!
[Chorus]:
(Generosity) Oh, that's me, baby!
(Generosity) Be the party, yeah!
(Generosity) Oh, yeah now we can agree,
Open up your heart and let it go free.
[Verse 3]:
This very hour... you must confide,
Where your mind... resi-eee-ya-eeedes
You got it tough? You should abide,
With your friends and family, they are your tribe.
[Verse 4]:
Stitch up your side. Good will collides,
With laughter... and love there, besides.
Beautiful heart... filled up with pride,
You can see it shining through from inside.
[Pre-Chorus]
[Chorus]
[Solo]
[Prechorus]
[Chorus/Outro with plenty of ad libs] x4
