Thinking about Adaine in the Nightmare King’s Forest. Feeling alone and deeply sad at the prospect of outliving all of her friends. Knowing that some of them would have a fairly long lifespan, but she was an elf. She would outlive them all and be alone again.
And then.
And then Aelwyn is redeemed. She’s allowed to atone for her mistakes, and they become sisters again. Adaine slowly beginning to realize that she may outlive her friends, but not her sister.
“I hope we get to eat ice cream and cast magic forever” with an unspoken “together” at the end.
