I apparently have thoughts that are not fandom related: Oops

I would like to point out that if Hbomberguy DIDNT make a video and fucking annihilate James Somerton’s credibility that this would’ve continued in perpetuity.

I would also like to make it ABUNDANTLY clear that we CANNOT and should not rely on a balding British bi-man to save the day whenever he finds a rabbit hole. (Though I do love him and find his work exceptional and thought provoking.)

The burden of proof that we expect out of Hbomberguy’s videos should not be resigned to him alone (or any other creator).

It’s on us.

It’s on all of us.

We all need to take the time to reevaluate how we consume media and the method of that consumption as it relates to our collective knowledge as a whole.

YOU have to start thinking critically and checking sources, because it’s been made clear time and time again that those at the top will neglect to do the work if it interferes with their ability to make money. (Or apparently if it’s just too hard or they don’t give a shit.)

So, as in the ever timeless wise words of a certain North American Bear….

Addressing The Mutant Elephant in the Room that is Jean Grey

Okay, it's been a few weeks so I'm not gonna tag this as a spoiler. Really, I just want to rant about something I've seen on Youtube regarding discourse surrounding Brand New Day's portrayal of Jean Grey.

Why are people on Youtube angry Jean is starting out in a more antagonistic role? Now more specifically, they're more annoyed that Jean was using her telepathic abilities to possess people but "gets a pass" or something. But I would argue that, frankly, how is that any different from any other character we've seen in the MCU who's had villainous beginnings?

Did these same people take issue with Pietro and Wanda working for Ultron before becoming Avengers? Did they take issue with Wanda using her mind-screw powers on them mid-way through the film? What about Nat, who explicitly says she has red in her ledger? Or the Thunderbolts, who all have questionable pasts? Or Bob, who, yeah, didn't do anything wrong, but he's very powerful and has DID. With one of those personalities being a terrifying depression monster that will consume us all if left unchecked. Or hell, what if the MCU does what I think they're going to do and introduce Rogue as part of Mystique's group where we see her absorb Carol's powers like in Avengers Annual #10?

There's also the little fact that...you know...Jean snuffed out an entire planet during The Dark Phoenix Saga, and she was so guilt-ridden by this and, knowing she would inevitably become Dark Phoenix again, allowed herself to be killed during the fight with the Shi'ar. If you ask me? Jean having "villainous beginnings", especially the way it's portrayed in the film, doesn't seem that far off to me.

I'll wrap this up by saying this; no one in Marvel is innocent and while it's okay to critique films or not like the portrayal of a character, that doesn't automatically mean Marvel/the staff behind BND choosing to make Jean a troubled youth in and of itself is a bad thing.

P.S. I do know some people who take issue with Pietro and Wanda initially working with Hydra in AOU given their Jewish heritage in the comics. And honestly? I think that's fair. The only reason I didn't bring it up is that I think people on Youtube really underestimate just how many characters in Marvel have villainous beginnings but turn good. Or they're just grifting. The people on Youtube, I mean. Not people being upset at Wanda and Pietro being minorities working for the Nazis.

I do not like the Dislike Button I found on the video-sharing site by name of "Youtube".

Why is there a specific button that you may anonymously click to show your hateful attitude towards others? I cannot see how this is anything but mean and unnecessary. I shall never use such a button.

Okay... normally I'd NEVER post something like this, but genuinely... Why comment on ONE video and not watch the entire set of videos? I ADORE Bob and the Spooky Month series... I fake ignorance for CONTENT! My friends also do the same thing! It makes me so mad when people assume things about me based on ONE video. I've rewatched the series more than I should admit. It takes literally a few seconds to be kind for free than be a jerk.

I watched hbomberguy's video and the biggest shock to me was internet historian, and it's so dumb with all the visuals and editing he does on his videos there would be no problem if he had asked for permission and credited that he was basing the video on someone else's script, such a dumb thing to do.

Very shocked too to see all the people on here that are fans of Somerton, that didn't surprise me at al, idk, never liked that guy.
