Ysara’s Sheet
Name: Ysara
Pronouns: She/Her
Species: Minotaur
Age: 143
Plane of Origin: Theros
First Planeswalk: Jund
Colors: Red, Blue
Appearance (and/or Art): She is a Theran minotaur, and as such is larger than most minotaurs of other planes. Even discounting the time before the Mending when she didn’t age, she’s one of the oldest minotaurs from Theros still alive, and her age bears on her. Her fur lost its shine, and most of it turned gray with time. She’s slow on her hooves, and doesn’t stay standing for too long when possible. Her right ear is missing most of its point.
Backstory: Ysara was born in the minotaur polis of Skophos, raised within the relative safety of its walls. Safe from humans, at least, even if life in the polis was less violent than among the raiders, Theran minotaurs were still a rough people. She quickly stood out as one interested in the maze and its traps, and was trained and became one of the one to take care of its upkeeps. Despite what the storytellers will say, rare is the trap that can survive centuries without some repair.
But she grew bored of her task, and with prayers and offerings to Mogis, joined a band of raiders. It wasn’t without objections, however. The minotaur in charge of her didn’t approve of her choice, and confronted her about it. If she wanted to fight, she’d have to prove she could by beating him, first. The veteran raider had seen and survived many battles, against humans and minotaurs alike. She’d lived at least three scores of years. She might have been slower, but she was still more skilled and stronger. Of course, Ysara lost, and her opponent left a gash in one of her ears to remind her of her place.
She learned a different lesson. Or maybe exactly what had been intended for her to learn. To be ready. The next time, she was the one issuing the challenge. This time, she had more than a weapon. She’d taken the time to prepare some other traps than the one in the labyrinth. She won her fight, and cut the elder’s ear in return.
She joined a raid and soon discovered she wasn’t as ready as she thought. When came the time to fight a human phalanx, she acted less than bravely. When the engagement turned out to be a trap itself her lack of fighting spirit had her far enough that she survived the first fight, alone. Not wanting to come back a coward, she started her revenge. Pursued by the humans, she did what she knew best. She set traps. She killed them two by two. Finally, when only one was left, the one that had led the phalanx, as determined to avenge his soldiers than she was the raiders. When they finally confronted each other, she had Mogis at her back, reveling in the massacre, and he had Iroas at his, striving for victory.
When they clashed in the night, the twins clashed in nyx. All night long, their weapon struck. With the gods above us, they didn’t seem to tire. Finally, not long before dawn, a spear pierced her and Mogis’s hide. Not feeling the pain, she managed to grasp the human by driving the spear further into herself. She didn’t want to die, nor for this human to get back a hero to his polis. As she lost consciousness, her magic manifested and stuck her hand to the human.
To her own surprise, she woke up restrained and roughly bandaged, but alive. When she smelled and saw the human, she attacked him and pushed him into a wall, before remembering she was restrained. And still had his armor on her hand. And then she noticed the sky outside the cavern, devoid of any trace of Nyx.
The new planeswalker survived alongside the human, still unfamiliar with what she could do. When she was finally confident enough to get them back to Theros, she had already found other places. Other lands. She never went back to Skophos. The human never went back to Akros. After having survived together. They’d found that neither of their species was quite what the other’s described. They traveled together. They lived together. He finally died without her. She kept on.
Then, some time ago, things changed, and she finally started aging. After some time together, she went back to Skophos. Her home and its people hadn’t changed much. She didn’t stay long, but the polis was much more secure after her passage. She still goes back there from time to time, trying to imprint some of what she learned, but she mostly settled on Kaladesh after the aether boom.
Magic, gear and/or abilities: Ysara can create thin, magical fields that can keep objects and magic together, essentially making them impossible to separate until she wishes so. It can stick forever once it attached two things, but will deteriorate rapidly if she isn’t maintaining it if not. She can create it in air or on surface easily by touch, or at a distance with enough magic.
As a Theran minotaur, Ysara was raised in a very violent society, even in the comparatively less war-torn society of Skophos. As such, she knows how to fight and not only fairly, even though her body isn’t what it used to be.
She’s an artificer, and specializes in the making of traps and other devices that need forward preparation. In direct combat, she tends to rely on impeding her opponent, sticking them or their weapons to various surfaces and possibly stopping their spells before they touch her.

hmmm well the only one i know much about is ysara but
she’s a little skittish, and can be - not violent, but definitely hostile - to people she doesn’t know. but she’s fiercely loyal to tristen, and when they’re out in the woods on a hunting trip for a few days she sleeps curled up right next to tristen
she’s kind of irritable and grumpy at times but mostly just when she needs some space, so tristen leaves her to herself to go prowl the woods and get some good meat to eat
