YOU WANT TO LEARN HOW TO KISS. and who better to ask to teach you than your childhood best friend who has been with you since diapers? there are many answers to this question, but your ears are closed.
so, there you are, sitting infront of shin yuna, a name you know all too well. you just voiced your request a few seconds ago, yet it feels as if it’s been a lifetime with the way she is utterly quiet.
her face is unreadable, surpirising considering she is as expressive as a cartoon charecter. she finally takes a breath, breaking the silence, “you want me, to be your first kiss?” she asks, voice so unsure as if she can’t believe it, at all.
you hum in agreement, “yes.”
her eyes flash with something in what appears to be a millisecond and a smirk reminiscent curve curls on her lips, “well, i can’t deny my y/n-ie, now can i?” a teasing edge lingers in her words that makes your cheeks tingle for an uncertain reason.
she scoots closer, her knee brushing yours. her hand rises from her side and rests on your forearm. she blanks out for a second before snapping back to reality.
you look so innocent, with your eyes wide and awaiting her next move, tongue sliding on your bottom lip, as if to moisturize it to prevent the embarrassment of having chapped lips, even though you both know you’re a lippie-holic.
“okay. relax and simply follow my rhythm, got it?” she asks sweetly, as though she thought you would start crying if she spoke too harshly. you meekly nod, heart’s acceleration slowly increasing knowing what is about to happen in the next moments.
she tsks softly, “use your words, honey, let me know what you’re feeling.” the nickname slips off like habit, which isn’t false. couple akin nicknames aren’t an abnormality in your friendship, however right now it seems different.
more intimate.
more special, like she means it in the way the name is used in a romantic relationship.
god, what are you thinking, y/n?
why did you call her honey like that, yuna, why?!
yuna is no different. she isn’t sure how exactly the honey ended up sounding the way it did, but she is regretting agreeing to you already and she still hasn’t even properly closed the distance between you two.
you take a deep breath in a weak attempt to calm yourself down, “okay.” she nods, remembering what she signed up for. her free hand comes up and cups your cheek.
“your hands are cold.” you comment and she lets out a small giggle, “your cheeks are hot.” she contradicts, eyes crinkling at the sides from her smile.
“all of me is hot— i’m a hot snack after all.” you compliment yourself and the both of you laugh like dumb teenagers. “alright, self-proclaimed hot snack. let’s get to learning, shall we?”
you nod, “alright.” your nervousness is now a little less than a few minutes prior. she gives you a reassuring smile, before dipping her head to be at your eye-level, noses almost bumping.
your lips are not even inches apart. she takes your hand and places it on her shoulder then leaves her hand to be on your waist. the contact of her hands on your skin make warmth bloom around it.
“are you absolutely sure?” yuna asks one last time. you ask yourself, who knew consent was this hot? “yes, yuna.” you answer, voice no louder than a whisper.
she smiles a smidgen and then it happens. it actually, in real life, happens. her lips press on yours and you feel like the world stilled in its position.
you always thought that k-dramas overdid first kiss scenes with the soft music and the sparkles and the zoom in’s but as you tilt your head and try your best to follow her lead, you feel that they don’t do enough.
her hand lays steady on your cheek, grounding you and reminding you that you are not hallucinating and making out with the air. her other hand subtly squeezes your waist, making your lips leave a breathless gasp before she attaches her lips to yours.
yuna’s lips are soft and just as plump as you’d imagined. you have imagined what many things would be like with her, for example going on picnic dates, sleeping over (romantically, you sleepover at her house most nights) and more adult things.
yuna can’t get enough. the taste of your lipbalm has her head spinning and her senses are fogging, her sole focus is on kissing you. her dream has finally come true and she can’t hold back the tiny smile that makes its way to her mouth.
after a ridiculously long makeout ‘learning’ session, in narrator’s words; yuna finally pulls away and you’re left breathless and in a desperate need to kiss her again.
your forehead is touching hers and she is still not in her senses— she feels like she is drunk in the feel of your lips. without much thought, the following question rolls off her tongue, “wanna date?”
the biology version of the circuit that is in your brain short-circuits, words stuck in your throat and hands that are around her neck still. the two-worded question sounds unreal, there is possibly no way what she’s saying is real.
except there is a way, it is real.
the silence seems to have knocked yuna out of her trance as she realizes what she just asked. her eyes widen and she is about to backtrack, but doesn’t get the chance to because you push your lips back on hers again, like it is second nature, like you didn’t just share your first kiss with her less than two minutes ago.
you mutter a yes that is barely loud enough for her to hear in between your shared breath and attached lips. you can feel her smile in the contact and you are sure she can too.
in conclusion, you learnt two lessons today— one, yuna is a phenomenal kisser. two, you two are going on a date tomorrow. oh, and a bonus number three, you learnt how to kiss.
a pretty productive day all in all. you would recommend, 10/10, no notes.

what you heard about fuckgirl!yuna couldn’t be called a good reputation. how many gfs she had for the last year? 5 or 9? whatever is wrong with her, you did your best to avoid her whenever you were around your mutual friends, as you later found out. you don’t think about the casanova too much, neither did she.
when yuna first hears about you, she doesn’t really pay attention. when she first sees you? god, she’s swept from her feet. she’d stare at you for the whole time you’re there, getting knowing glances from your friends. of course, she’d make her move at the first day, but will only be meet with immediate rejection from you 😭
some of her close friends would secretly share with yuna some info about your fav meals, places, what you like etc. you’d be flabbergasted at first when yuna gets your favorite album or drink and you’d ponder about how she knows that. eventually of course you’ll come to conclusion that it all were doings of your mutual friends and you’ll be disappointed a bit 😭
i also think yuna would be soooo whiny to her close friends when you’re ignoring her and her gestures 🤭🤭 like she’d think what she did was a grand gesture — but in reality you barely notice/acknowledge it and it would be so frustrating to her. yuna would ask so much advices how to make you look at her, not because she can’t do that, but rather because you’re different from other girls she dated, you’re worth trying and it feels real, even if that wasn’t the first exact thought in yuna’s mind when she first saw you.
AND believe me when i say she’d be on cloud nine when you agree to go on a date with her! poor baby would be so nervous and elated just to spend time with you alone. as your dates become more frequent and you always spend time together, yuna would spend weeks pondering on how to ask you to be her girlfriend 😩 she’d prepare a speech, walk up to you all smugly and cocky, only to end to be a stuttering and flushed mess after you agreed and kissed her!!! 🫠

“Are you sure this is the right room?”
“I’m sure, Lily. Do you think Seungmin would mark the wrong dorm?”
“Ye-”
“Oh, just come on!”
You and Lily were bringing your belongings into a new dorm, part of your escape from Ryujin, your former roommate who just had to bring her pet spiders to college with her. Now don’t be mistaken, you love Ryujin, after all, she persuaded Yuna to let you move in with her. Although, it’s not like Yuna had much of a choice.
Yuna had been given a two-person dorm, even though she wasn’t assigned a roommate. Seungmin, the ra, had told Yuna someone might move into her dorm last minute, but she was willing to take the dorm for the luxurious possibility of solo living. After hearing about your predicament from both Ryujin and Seungmin, she had two choices: let you become her roommate or get rid of Ryujin’s tarantulas. And it’s not like the latter would happen anytime soon.
At midnight, your best friends had finally gone back to their own dorms. Only five minutes later, Yuna herself arrived, probably coming from hanging out with her own friends, it was a Friday after all. She looked perfect, like she had just come back from the salon. Although if you looked closer, you would have seen the exhaustion in her eyes.
“Hi, Yuna! I’m your new roommate. Ryujin probably told you about me alre-”
She had walked straight to her room and closed the door before you could even finish speaking.

If you’ve learned anything about Yuna in the past month and a half it’s that she’s an art major, and you don’t need to ask her to know (even though, in an effort to have a real conversation with her, you did ask about her major). With the Halloween season fast approaching, Yuna had already decked out your dorm in the latest Halloween fashions, while looking the happiest that you had ever seen her.
She even spoke to you without a scowl on her face as she started to carve mini pumpkins on the kitchen counter. You took this as a sign.
“Could I… carve one?”
“A pumpkin?”
“Yea. If you don’t mind.”
“No no! Here take this one.”
Maybe she just really liked Halloween. Yuna had rarely spoken to you like this before, with a huge smile on her face. It was probably because her pumpkin was turning out really cute, but you pretended that your roommate was smiling because you had finally made her happy enough to be around you for more than five minutes.
You and Yuna began to talk more, run errands together, and you even started to eat breakfast together before morning classes. If anybody saw you two skipping to the convenience store after late study nights, they wouldn’t be able to tell that your friendship was nonexistent a couple weeks prior. But they would be able to see the way you clung to her– with your eyes, with your hands that were trying to hold onto her arm. They would see the way she avoided your gaze, and the way you eventually just put your hands in your pockets, choosing to simply walk by her side.
~𓆩❤𓆪
Finally, the long awaited day you two had been preparing for arrived, but your roommate was nowhere to be found. Yuna had left early Halloween morning and you hadn’t seen her all day. You’d be lying if you said you weren’t a little bit disappointed. Looking at the paper bats hung in the living room made you wish that you could turn back time and carve pumpkins with her again. You had spent so long moping around your living room that Haewon and Lily almost kicked down your door before dragging you to their dorm to have a movie marathon.
When Yuna finally came back from Yeji’s place, she was surprised to find the dorm empty. She crashed onto her bed immediately, too tired to question why she correlated the emptiness of the dorm to your absence, instead of the living room's pitch-darkness.
The next morning, Yuna exited her room to find your room closed. She guessed that you had come back from your friends’ dorm after she had fallen asleep. Yuna knew her flurry of morning preparation might wake you up. Did she feel a little sorry? Maybe. But she had begun to grow used to walking to class with you, and how could she do that if you were sleeping? After ten minutes of Yuna sitting in the kitchen alone, you finally walked into the kitchen. The way Yuna’s face lit up when you appeared was a complete contrast to the cold-shoulder Yuna of early September. Surprised flashed across your face when you saw her smiling at you, only to be quickly replaced with a pink flush and a shy smile of your own.
“Do you want to get breakfast with me?”
“As in … going somewhere?”
“Well, just the vending machine.”
“Oh, well… lead the way!”
Yuna ended up following you as you skipped down the hall with your tote bag to the vending machine. To Yuna, it had begun to feel like she was actually living with you, instead of just living in the room next to yours. But to you, your friendship still felt… incomplete. As Yuna put your soon-to-be shared three packs of poptarts in her bag and pulled you into the elevator, you wondered if you were beginning to over-analyze things.
You decided that you could forget the way that you wanted to hold her hand as Yuna pulled you by the wrist, like she always did when she decided you were walking too slowly. Maybe you walked slowly on purpose, but she didn’t need to know that. It's not like you wanted to spend more time with her or anything. Now outside her department’s building, the absence of Yuna’s hand on your wrist snapped you out of your thoughts.
“Can you drive me to the museum later? Ryujin’s busy, and well…”
“You failed your driver’s test… again?”
“… I’ll buy you dinner after.”
“Okay, fine. I’ll see you after your last lecture then.”
She let out a little scream of excitement. “Thanks a million, babe,” Yuna turned to walk into the building, “what would I do without you?”
Yuna walked slowly through the building’s door, so she could turn back around at the last second to watch you walk into the library on the other side of the street. She had meant what she said, fuck the solo living shit she told herself over the summer, if you hadn’t become her roommate Yuna would have been dreadfully lonely. And, of course, she wouldn’t have gotten to know you outside of being Ryujin’s friend.
Now, she woke up earlier so you had more time to walk together. Now, she stayed home more often, so you could go out together on the weekends. At one point, Yuna had even wished she shared your major so you could have classes together.
Oh, but what could a girl do? It seemed that this girl could only survive the day's classes and wait for you to pick her up for your museum trip.
While Yuna suffered through art history lectures, you suffered, not from the increasingly boring textbook sitting in front of you, but from your own internal dilemma. The two of you were alike in thoughts and feelings.
You had long abandoned your studying in favor of overthinking. Friends always walked to school together right? Maybe some did. Roommates drove each other around town right? That’s normal friend behavior. Roommates overthink all their past interactions with their roommate before it’s even 9am right? Probably not… Friends who call each other “babe” think about it hours after the fact right? No… oh. oh.
~𓆩❤𓆪
Neither of you mentioned their thoughts to the other. And regardless of your inner turmoil, you happily drove Yuna to the museum, the latest hits blasting on the way. The museum was within walking distance. You didn’t even know why Yuna needed someone to drive her. But you’re willing to ignore that, after all you’re getting some time with Yuna outside of your now outdated Halloween dorm.
Once in the galleries, you were really questioning why Yuna asked you to come along. The only thing worth looking at, in your completely unbiased opinion, was Yuna. These strange paintings were really not your cup of tea. Your feet hurt from walking through the same few exhibits in the back of the museum. Your head hurt from all the talking children, middle-aged people muttering nonsense, and all of your own thoughts. Worst of all, Yuna didn’t even pay attention to you, only speaking to ask for your opinion on the pictures she was diligently taking. You guessed she had an assignment to do, being an art major or whatever, but–
“I can see you out of the corner of my eye, you know. Why aren’t you appreciating the art?”
“What do you mean?” you knew you had been caught staring.
“You’ve only been looking at me.”
“You're prettier than these paintings…” you whispered to yourself.
Yuna faced away from you, unsuccessfully trying to contain her blush. “You can look at me later…” Her blush must’ve been contagious, since you became quite rosy as well.
Needless to say, you two left the museum ten minutes later. You walked next to Yuna and got in your car, all while avoiding eye contact. “Do you want to get dinner now?” Yuna said, breaking the silence. You had completely forgotten about the promise of dinner, since that’s obviously not why you agreed to drive Yuna in the first place. “Yeah, where do you want to eat?”
~𓆩❤𓆪
By the time dinner was over and you and Yuna were back in the car, the awkward air had left, and been replaced by a different feeling. Dinner had consisted of both of you making small talk, that occasionally delved into deeper topics like your classmates or the strange freshmen in the dorm below yours. Not awkward, but not quite comfortable. You could feel that Yuna had something to say, and questions to ask, but neither of you said anything of importance on the trip back to your dorm.
Once the door was locked, you headed straight for the kitchen, sitting down on top of the counter. Maybe it was stress eating, but you told yourself that you just needed a little treat for being normal around your roommate today. You devoured a pack of oreos as Yuna opened her computer on the other side of the kitchen island.
“What were the pictures for?” you said, anxious to keep the somewhat meaningless conversation alive in the weird atmosphere.
“It's an assignment for Professor Hwang,” she replied, like she was asking a question, “we're doing a special unit on contemporary paintings soon, so– um– we need pictures of our favorites for the next unit.”
Flustered Yuna was cute. But Yuna getting flustered over being asked about paintings? Still cute, but strange.
“I'm going to take a shower. It's already 11, and I have an 8am tomorrow,” Yuna hastily said. She left so quickly that she forgot about her laptop, leaving it open on the counter in front of you. And upon the closing of the bathroom door, you got up to take a look.
I'm not being nosy at all! I'm just looking to see… oh.
The picture left on the screen was a beautifully photographed painting, but a different folder was also opened. And the majority of the other pictures in the folder weren't paintings. How had you never noticed? In that folder, there were more pictures of you than you could count. You lean over the kitchen counter, curled up on the couch, posing next to one of your pumpkins, in the hallway, mid-bite into a poptart. You walking to the campus library… driving your car… and you, in the museum, staring at the floor with a subtle smile on your face. You closed the computer, quickly turning around to resume stress eating your oreos. Those last couple of pictures were taken today? How had you not noticed, when you were staring at her the whole time?
Do friends take pictures of each other while they're driving? While they're absentmindedly staring at the museum floors? No. But you already knew that. All you had to do was find out if Yuna knew that too, if only you could find the courage to take that risk.
~𓆩❤𓆪
Yuna thought she understood you. So why were you acting so unlike yourself? Did you lose your taste for vending machine poptarts? Or, even worse, were you bored of her company?
No! Yuna wouldn't allow herself to think like that. You had begun to leave earlier for school, leaving her to walk to class by herself. Yuna treated the occasional dinner with you like a blessing from heaven, but, even though you two shared a dorm, she was still seeing less and less of you. But she always knew that one day you might get bored, that you'd drift away before Yuna could tell you–
“You know, I don't think they would ever want to stop being friends with you, Yuna.” Her thoughts faded as Ryujin, a totally certified relationship expert and best friend, talked away. Yuna had gone to Ryujin’s to get her dilemma out of her head and into words, so the two were having a sleepover. The beloved spiders that had triggered this whole affair were in a terrarium behind the two.
“You really think so?”
“I know so. Why don’t you just ask them why they've been spending less time with you! Or better yet, tell them about your absolutely enormous crus–”
“I do not! I only see them as a friend!!” Liar.
“Being louder doesn't make you right. Go to sleep and just talk to them tomorrow.”
Yuna fell asleep, knowing her last words of the day were a complete lie. But she would only admit Ryujin was right after she went home to you and tried to do something about it.
~𓆩❤𓆪
You were asleep, after all it was Saturday, and the fact that it was past 2pm was irrelevant. As it had been for the past several weeks, Yuna was not in the dorm. She was probably at Ryujin’s again; she never seemed to be home anymore.
But as you poured yourself a cup of orange juice in the kitchen, Yuna walked in.
“I have something to tell you.”
“You're not at Ryujin’s?”
“Well, I was yesterday, but um- I wanted to talk to you before you left…”
“We don't have school on Saturdays, Yuna.”
“Oh… right.”
Well, this was getting awkward. You put away the orange juice, all while trying to maintain eye contact with Yuna. The girl across from you desperately looked anywhere that wasn't you, finally setting her eyes on a lone pack of oreos.
Yuna moved to sit on the counter, eating oreos as she waited for something to happen, for you to say something so she wouldn't have to.
“Weren't you the one who wanted to tell me something?”
Oh right. Great job, Yuna.
“Yeah, well um- I just wanted to ask you why you've been… avoiding me. Did I do something or… do you not want to be friends anymore?”
You moved closer to her with every word, trying to come up with a response, until you were close enough to grab an oreo yourself. Yuna’s words got slower and quieter the more she said. You were motionless, stuck at what couldn't have been more than an inch away from her face.
But it's not like you just wanted to see her up close. Liar. It's not like you wanted to be this close to her all the time. Another lie. Or like you wanted to feel her lips on your forehead. Your cheeks. Your-
Lips. Yuna grabbed the front of your shirt and kissed you.
It was quick, but it was enough to make you blush profusely. But before you could even say anything, Yuna had ran out of the kitchen, with bright red ears, to sit on the sofa.
“Yuna…,” you said quietly, after walking over to Yuna and sitting on the floor so you could see her face. “Come on, babe. You can’t just run away after you do something like that.”
Her ears turned redder, if that was even possible, and she looked at you through her fingers, not moving from her place on the couch. You got up from the floor and took a seat next to her, wrapping your left arm around her shoulders to get her to face you.
“I have something to tell you too.”
“Oh… what is it?”
You smiled softly at her, cheeks still flushed from Yuna’s kiss, her lipstick could be seen on your lips. It only made her cover her face to hide her blushing cheeks more. You were definitely riding the high from finally kissing her, but this confidence boost wasn’t going to last forever. You took a deep breath and forced the words out of your throat.
“Does this mean you’ll let our next dinner date be an actual date?”
“What?”
Another deep breath. “Let me take you out on a date, Yuna.”
At this, Yuna finally took her hands off her face, putting them on yours instead, pulling you in for another kiss.
“Safe to say that’s a yes,” you said through giggles.
Today was one of those bad fucking days. One of those days when you can't find any positivity in anything. One of those days when you don't feel like talking to the people you love the most. One of those days when you just want to give up.
The first thing you saw in the morning was a the notification of a text from your girlfriend. Looking at the white speech bubble is something you usually look forward to when you see Somi's name bright up your screen, knowing she always has something entertaining to tell.
But this particular morning she said something you wish were a joke.
SomSom babieboo💞
[ive been thinking lately and _____ i think we need a break]

[You're not going to tell me why?]

You asked her the first thing that came to your mind. She couldn't possibly just expect you to be OK with having a break without a reason, right?
After an hour you accepted the fact that she had left you on read and that she wasn't going to reply anytime soon.
Maybe it was because she called you _____.
She never called you by your name. Only your friends called you that. She was supposed to call you weird or cheesy pet names and nothing else!
She left you with a headache. She left you with your bad thoughts and theories. Damn you, Somi.
It was very human-like of you to be in a bad mood. Only a robot would feel nothing in this situation. The day wouldn't get any worse. You were going to make sure of it! Your mood may have been bad, but you weren't going to let anyone else get affected by it. Lashing out on innocent people because you don't feel good on the inside is something you hated doing.
Today you were going to hang out with your best friend, Yuna, have a picnic on a park next to the Han river. Yuna had packed a cute pink basket (that she had specifically bought for you two to use for picnics together since they happened at least thrice a month) which was filled with tuna and kimchi kimbap, green grapes, two clementines and some churro flavored chips and you had packed a large outdoor blanket so Yuna wouldn't have too much to carry. For almost a week you two hadn't met up and you both missed each other and wanted to make up for the days you had spent apart so of course you went for the nice, typical no-homo picnic hang out session.
But no.
You weren't going to meet Yuna and ruin her parade with the rain cloud that was following you around wherever you went since you opened your eyes this dark morning. No, you weren't going to let the first time you two meet in such a long time be ruined by the sad news you got this ugly morning.

[We'll meet another day I promise to make up for this!]
And so you put the phone gently on the table to lay on the sofa and binge watch some random show. You made sure to turn your phone off first since you knew you'd cut Somi some slack in case you read any persuasive text from her — she's good with words and making you feel loved. Whilst you were looking through all the lists Netflix had created for you, which were filled with movies and series you either had already seen or weren't interested in, Yuna was still expectantly waiting for her screen to go bright.
She must be joking, she thought.
Unlike you, Yuna's morning had started out brilliant. From the moment she opened her eyes, she was smiling and full of energy, excited to hang out with you after not seeing you for five whole days. She had missed you. Spending time with you was one of her favorite hobbies! Since you two had picnics regularly you two had decided that you would take turns in deciding and packing the picnic basket and this time it was Yuna's turn! She had been so excited all week, planning out a shopping list days before. She had specifically purchased grapes this time because she had this fantasy of putting one in your mouth (which sounded weird, but it would feel intimate to feed you fruit) and also playing around and throwing grapes up in the air and catching them in the mouth.
Needless to say, she liked you a little more than a best friend should and that was a bit of a problem. Her friends kept telling her that it was stupid to spend so much time with you and that Yuna should either try to ignore her emotions or she should distance herself from you until she loses feelings, because it was unfair to hurt herself by giving herself false hopes of getting somewhere with a taken girl.
And Yuna knew it. For so long, she'd known that it was a bad idea to like you. You didn't like her in the same way, and you even had a girlfriend for fuck's sake — and a really pretty one at that! But no matter how many red flags there were, she still wanted to spend everyday with you. She didn't want a week to go by without being with you. She wanted to cuddle with you on a picnic blanket. She wanted to kiss you when you visited photo booths. She wanted to share shirts with you. She wanted to stay up late and talk until you two fell asleep in each others' arms. She wanted to be the only one you called Baby.
Wondering why you called Yuna 'Baby' when you already were in a relationship with Somi? Well, Baby had been Yuna's nickname before you even met Somi (yes, you'd known Yuna longer than you'd known Somi, yet you still found yourself in a relationship with the latter — or not anymore actually). And though your (then) girlfriend never liked it, you had convinced her it was just a friendly pet name. Because that's exactly what it was.
To you.
To Yuna it was the closest she'd ever feel to being your girlfriend. But you started using that pet name less and ever since Somi came around and ruined everything more than it already was ruined. Yuna even had to change her contact name on your phone to include the word 'baby' so you wouldn't forget to call her that.
She loathed Somi.
Somi was always the reason why you couldn't hang out with your bestfriend for too long, why you couldn't call her Baby on certain occasions and why you couldn't look at her as a potential girlfriend. Somi was an attention thief. Not really. But it felt like it. Yuna was jealous of everything Somi had with you.
Because your girlfriend obviously was a threat, Yuna felt like she needed even more of your validation than before (which was already a lot). She needed your attention. If you ignored her she'd think it was your way of telling her that you had left her completely for Somi. Ridiculous! She shouldn't feel like you owe attention to her.
Your friendly fucking friendship was the closest thing Yuna had to being together with you in the way she really wanted, so she valued it a lot. Not having you as her girlfriend was painful enough, but not having you as even her friend would break her.
Right now you weren't validating your time together, nor your friendship — or at least it felt like it to Yuna. She always needed. Your attention and unlike normally, she wasn't getting it right now. Her smile dropped and so did her excitement for the day.
Was this the end?
She knew that spending one week without each other would lead to more time for you to spend with your damn girlfriend but she didn't know it would lead to the end of your friendship.
No way she'd bail on the picnic plans.

You had ignored her only once before and it was a horrible experience.
The way you ignored her (on accident) was so hurtful that she had to leave the gathering that she had looked forward to for so long, confusing the other guests, to go and lock herself in a bathroom so she could cry without bothering anyone. You'd gone right after her since you knew it wasn't very Yuna-like to leave a fun time for no reason. After you had knocked on the door and reassured her you were her best friend and not a random person coming to make fun of her, she let you in the bathroom.
The sight you were met by was her crumbling figure on the floor and overflowing tears on her cheeks. She had thought that you wanted nothing to do with her. Stupid you didn't see the obvious signs. It was because of the fact that you hadn't paid any attention to her that Yuna had gotten the idea that you had grown bored of her or that you wanted to leave her for Somi (she hadn't told you the latter part, of course). And weeks later you did get together with Somi. And that made her cry herself to sleep for days which you never knew.
How much your lack of attention and affection for Yuna had affected her was scary. And a fucking sign, you idiot. Nobody gets so worked up over the loss of affection of someone they view as a friend. Ever since that incident you'd made sure to always remind her of how much you value your friendship.
Except for today.
She thought she had made it clear enough to you that you never ever should ignore her unless you really meant It. Unless you really wanted to part ways. To go from the bestest friends to cold acquaintances. Some people might think it's crazy to be this attached to a best friend but you weren't just her best friend. You were her love and happiness. Without you she didn't have either.
Five minutes passed since she triple texted you and she still had no reply. Slowly she felt how her tummy was turning into knots and how her eyes started stinging.

If you didn't show up she knew for sure that you had left her behind forever. If you did show up then she'd confess to you. So spontaneous. She couldn't keep her feelings away from you for another year because it wasn't healthy and she knew it. She knew she would have to tell you about her feelings sooner or later. And after being without you for a whole ass week and after experiencing the cruel punishment that is being ignored and even thinking you broke your dear friendship off, she knew the time had come for her to finally woman up and confess.
Whilst she was anxiously thinking through why she made such a bold move and possibly ruined any future she had with you, the girl she loved was being lazy and stuffing her face in pillows in front of a TV.
one season of Young Royals later...
Tossed between blankets and an overflow of pillows, your tummy roared like a lion. You hadn't eaten anything yet. Maybe it was time to do something other than numbing your feelings with Netflix and the drinks you had at home? As you stood up you felt heavy. You had moved maximum 100 meters in the past few hours — to go to the bathroom then kitchen and back to the living room — and it had taken a toll on your body physically.
Fuck.
You sat back down on your sofa and brought your phone to view after hours without it.
[6 new messages from Baby Yunanana🍓]
Fuck. The last message was sent so long ago. You looked at your windows. It was dark outside. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. As fast as you physically could, you put on a pair of shoes and a jacket with your aching limbs.
In just a few minutes you were on your way to the closest bus station. The whole bus ride to the river was filled with thoughts putting you down. Your favorite person in the world was sensitive about this stuff and you hurt her. You were supposed to not let your bad mood affect anybody around you. But who were you kidding? Of course something had to go wrong with an idea you constructed and analyzed for four microseconds.
Before you knew it you had arrived at the destination. You were speed walking to the river. You two always went to the exact same spot by the river since it was usually vacant, by some miracle, and had a pretty view of a bridge.
You were naive enough to think that isolating yourself from your bestfriend and your phone would help solve your problems, so you were certainly naive enough to go and check if Yuna was still at your meeting place hours after you were supposed to meet her. What if she wasn't there? What if she was there?
The water was shimmering from the moonlight and next to it was a bench and a thin, tall silhouette. Your eyes widened. Could it be...? Sniffles. That's the sound that came from their direction. You walked closer and could make out the lines of a figure that was all too familiar.
"Baby?"
The silhouette turned around and though it was dark you could see that it in fact was her. You quickly sat down beside her and noticed that a couple of notebooks were scattered on the ground next to a bike. You didn't know what to do, never having seen glad Yuna cry. After another particularly loud sniffle you turned your attention back to her. The light of the moon exposed the redness and tears on her face. For hours she'd been outside and her face was still wet with tears.
"Why are you still out at this hour?"
She choked on her tears and rested her face in her hands, "Because I'm a fool."
"No, you're not a—"
"Why are you here?" she interrupted you.
Touché.
"You told me to meet you if I care about you."
"You come here hours later as if I don't mean anything to you," she hurried out before her voice could crack.
"I'm sorry about that. But if I didn't care about you I wouldn't show up at all," you spoke with a soft tone. The last thing you wanted was to be harsh, especially since you were the reason your best friend was upset.
"Why did you do this to me, 언니?" she looked you in the eyes as if she'd find any answers inside them.
"I promise I didn't do it on purpose. I would never hurt you on purpose," you took her hands into yours, oblivious to how the simple gesture made Yuna a bit hopeful on the inside.
Her hands were so cold it was shocking that she was shaking because of her crying and not because of the ice-like coldness. That's what happens when you're out for hours when there's no sun — or person — to keep you warm.
"I saw the messages 20 minutes ago and got here immediately. I would never purposely ignore you, Baby."
You made sure to use her nickname in almost every sentence you spoke, silently telling her that you don't want to fight. Slowly you brought her hands to your lips and kissed them lightly, five kisses on each hand for every finger. She looked at your lovely action and felt how her tears were slowing down. The kisses didn't make her warm — maybe for a second — but at least they made her feel somewhat better inside.
"I'm so, so sorry you had to be here in the cold," you apologized and kept her hands in yours as an attempt to warm them.
One part of Yuna wanted to continue being mad and make you feel bad for the hurt you'd caused her but the bigger part wanted you to hold her in your arms. She loved you and couldn't stay mad at you for long even if she tried.
"I-It's OK, 언니. At least you're here now," she whispered and looked at your locked hands, admiring the sight since it may never happen again — or maybe she should make sure her hands are cold more often—
You sent her a sorrowful smile and let her head rest on your shoulder, resting your own against it as an instinct, both from being comfortable and tired.
"From now on I will check if I have any texts every hour for you," you said with an exaggerated joking voice to lighten the mood.
She giggled. You weren't even being that funny but you were both tired and sad, so anything even a tiny bit funny was hilarious to both of you.
"What did you want to tell me before, Baby?" you whispered into her fluffy hair and petted it.
Should she tell you how she feels? Should she possibly ruin this? If she told you how she truly felt, would you ever kiss her hands like you did just now? Would you ever touch her this caringly ever again? Would you continue to call her Baby? Or would all of that be gone due to your loyalty to your sweet precious girlfriend Somi?
For hours Yuna had been outside in the cold waiting for the love of her life so she could tell her the truth. But it took time before you, the love of her life, showed up. Too long.
When a person is alone outside with notebooks filled with blank pages to write feelings and stories in, it's easy to let emotions take over. She ended up writing around seven poems. Some poems were really cheesy and written in the spirit of the moment. Some didn't even rhyme. Some were a perfect description of where she was in her non-existing love life.
But they all had one thing in common.
They were melancholic and written from the point of view of a woman who was hopelessly in love with her best friend.
"Nothing. I just wanted to have a picnic with you, 언니. I was just being dramatic to convince you to come despite feeling under the weather," she lied right through her teeth.
That made no sense because you two had never been on a picnic after sunset and Yuna would never lie to make you come see her. But you were tired and desperate to leave the cold outside, so you chuckled lightly, believing her immediately.
"Then where are the snacks?" you asked, confused since the only things around you were notebooks, a bike and water.
"I ate them."
Laughter filled the air; your genuine one and her fake one.
You put your face in her cheek, making her blush (not that you'd notice, since her cheeks were already red from before), "Well, my tummy is a little too thin right now, so let's go somewhere."
"In the middle of the night?" she questioned.
"Yes," you smiled against her cheek and she felt it, making her smile too.
"OK."
You both were still smiling when you were picking up all the notebooks to get ready for the ride. Jokes were thrown here and there. It was as if nothing had happened. You both knew it was a misunderstanding and you valued the friendship with the other too much to put energy into arguing. And you were tired too, so the argument wouldn't even be that epic even if you tried.
"What about your bike?"
"Oh nooo! The buses are always so full now that it's too late to take the subway!" Yuna whined.
"You know what? Since I was a jerk you can go take a warm bus while I ride in the cold," you said impulsively.
"B-But, 언니—" she smiled, flattered.
"B-But nothing," you interrupted her and sat down on the bike. Anyone who had spoken to you knew you were stubborn. She laughed. The little sadness she had left was gone by now. Her cheeks were dry. Still red, but not from crying, now they were red from blushing.
"OK, whatever you say, 언니."
"You brought a transport card right?" you made sure since she came by bike.
"Yes I do~ See you in an hour, 언니," she winked at you and waved with a smile brighter than the moon before running to the bus that just arrived.
You waved back to her and got ready to bike — you definitely needed a head start. But before you started you couldn't help but see something white standing out in the darkness.
It was another one of Yuna's notebooks. You must've been too tired to notice it when you were picking them up. Thankfully the notebook was open or else you wouldn't have noticed it as it had a dark cover. You took it into your hands. To make sure it really was Yuna's you needed to read at least a snippet.
You prayed it was Yuna's because it would be worse if you read a stranger's private thoughts than your best friend's since you already knew all her secrets. The snippet was Yuna's. It was from one of the pages of poems that didn't rhyme, that was very cheesy but depicted how sappy she was feeling and also told her part of the story that you never knew.
i want to feel my best friend's lips on my lips
ugh how much of a cliche gay can i be haha
i don't want her to call me 'baby' only
i want her to call me 'mine'
i want to call her that too
You drop the book on the grass. So that's what she wanted to tell you.
"Hello?" You look around, you can't quite find the light. Creeekkk. You jump and look around. "Y-yuna?" You quiver in fear. You walk around more, it looks just like your home. Just as you find the light switch, it disappears. Next thing you know, the door slams open. A sharp toothed mud monster came hurrying at you.
You jumped up awake, screaming in real life without realizing it. A sleepy, terrified Yuna quickly turns on the light. "Baby, what's the matter?" She rushes to wrap her arms around you. "You're okay, it's just a dream." She rubs your back soothingly. "Shh" she whispers and holds you tight." "M-monster." You hold onto her, shivering with fear. "There's no monster here love. If there was I wouldn't let it hurt you! I'd grab my bat and swing at it like never before." She held your hands and kissed each of your fingertips. After, she carefully placed small kisses on your cheek. She rocked you gently in her arms and handed you a teddy bear. "Mr. Cuddles wouldn't let the monsters get you either." After a while you felt sleepy again but you couldn't go back to sleep. What if she nightmare happens again? "Y-yuna can we watch spongebob?" "Whatever you need to fall back asleep beautiful." She turns on spongebob and within 30 minutes you fell asleep in her arms. She smiled proudly and held onto you for the rest of the night. She would do anything and everything to protect you from the monsters. She was your knight in shining armor. Your knight by the name of Shin Yuna.
a/n: i may or may not be completely in love with the shin yuna
During ITZY's break after their tour, Yuna had decided to stay over at Y/N's place for awhile, as the second day of her little "sleepover" began Yuna started feeling a little bored, and as she wandered around the house, she spotted Y/N sitting on the couch, his nose buried in a book. She decided to join him, plopping down beside him and peering over his shoulder to see what he was reading.
"It's just a novel," Y/N said, looking up and smiling at her.
Yuna wrinkled her nose. "It looks boring. Come play with me instead."
Y/N laughed. "I can't just drop everything every time you want to play, Yuna."
"Why not?" she pouted, crossing her arms. "You're supposed to be my boyfriend. You should want to spend time with me."
"I do want to spend time with you," Y/N said, setting the book aside. "But I also have other things I need to do sometimes."
Yuna huffed, but then a sly smile spread across her face. "Fine, be that way. I'll just have to find someone else to play with me."
Y/N's eyes widened. "Hey, now, don't be like that. I'll play with you, just give me a minute to finish up what I'm doing."
Yuna grinned triumphantly. "I knew you'd give in eventually. Now come on, let's go play some video games!"
They spent the next hour or so playing various games, with Yuna giggling and cheering whenever she won, and pouting when she lost. Y/N found himself thoroughly enjoying the playful banter, and he couldn't help but smile at the sight of his girlfriend's happiness.
Eventually, they decided to take a break, and Yuna flopped down beside him on the couch, snuggling up close. "You know," she said, idly playing with his shirt collar, "you're really cute when you're trying to be all serious."
Y/N raised an eyebrow. "I'm always serious," he said with a mock frown.
Yuna laughed. "Oh, please. I've seen you goof around with the members. You're not fooling anyone."
Y/N chuckled, shaking his head. "Alright, fine, you caught me. But in my defense, it's hard not to be silly around you."
Yuna's cheeks flushed pink at the compliment, and she leaned in for a quick kiss. "You're such a smooth talker," she teased.
Y/N grinned. "I learned from the best," he said, winking at her.
Yuna's face lit up at his comment. "Aww, you're so sweet," she said, playfully nudging his shoulder.
Y/N chuckled and leaned in to give her a quick kiss on the cheek. "Anything for my girl," he said, causing Yuna to blush.
The two of them spent the next few hours playing video games again, laughing and teasing each other as they battled it out. Yuna was surprisingly good at the game, and Y/N found himself struggling to keep up with her.
As they played, Y/N couldn't help but think about how lucky he was to have Yuna in his life. She brought so much joy and excitement into his world, and he couldn't imagine a day without her not after the excruciating months he spent alone while Yuna roamed around the world.
Finally, after a particularly intense match, Yuna declared herself the winner. "Yes!" she exclaimed, pumping her fist in the air. "I win again!"
Y/N rolled his eyes, but couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm. "You're too good at this," he said, leaning in to give her a kiss.
As they pulled apart, Yuna's eyes sparkled mischievously. "You know, I think we should make a bet," she said.
Y/N raised an eyebrow. "A bet? What kind of bet?"
Yuna grinned. "If I win the next match, you have to do whatever I say for the rest of the day."
Y/N laughed. "And if I win?"
Yuna shrugged. "I'll do whatever you want."
Y/N smirked. "You're on."
The next match was intense, with both of them giving it their all. But in the end, Y/N emerged victorious.
Yuna pouted, but then a sly smile spread across her face. "Well, I guess I have to do whatever you want now," she said, batting her eyelashes.
Y/N chuckled. "You know what I want?"
"What?" Yuna asked, curiosity in her eyes.
"I want to take you out on a date tonight," he said, reaching out to take her hand. "Just the two of us."
Yuna's face lit up with delight. "I would love that," she said, leaning in to give him a kiss.
As they pulled apart, Y/N couldn't help but feel grateful for Yuna's bratty side. It always led to moments like these, moments that he would treasure forever.
a/n: but fr though, there's something about Yuna that is astonishingly captivating, I don't think in the near future I'll be writing anything other than generic fluff and angst for her since, to me she still seems like the 16 year old i first saw but if i get specific requests i might write them while toning it down a bit, anywho i hope you all enjoy this little thing i wrote
“do you know how to ride a bike?” coming from the high pitched- most likely curious voice of your girlfriend is the first thing that greets you when you answer the call.
“yes, why?” you had plans for lunch with her in a few minutes anyway, so you pinch the phone between your cheek and shoulder as you gather your purse and keys, slowly walking out of your apartment.
“can you teach me?” that was unexpected, she has you raising your brows as you lock your door and head for the elevator.
“um, sure sweets. can i ask why?”
“i just have this really cool idea for my solo stage and it involves a bike” you don’t ask further, you’re sure she’ll tell you about it over lunch
“do you have practice today?” the call transfers to your car’s speakers when you begin to back out of your parking spot.
“nope, im finished for the day, why?”
“can i buy you a bike?” there’s the shortest silent from her part, and then a couple of giggles before her answer.
“yes! i’m so excited, see you soon?”
“see you soon jagi” with the cheesiest grin, you head over to pick up your beloved. when you do, it takes a minute to convince her of keeping training wheels on her new bike.
“it can’t be that hard” she huffs
“it can, and it can be even harder if you’re trying to sing and have a very narrow space to ride” you tuck a piece of hair behind her ear, rubbing her shoulder in consolation as she stares at the bicycle in front of her, perfect for what she was planning.
“fine” she huffs and lets you walk her to the register, where you pay and ask the training wheels be installed
“where are you going?” you ask, a wide smile on your lips as she turns to face you
“to the car?”
“come on, classes start now!” she watches as you bite your bottom lip, almost teasing her for the confused expression she wore.
“here?” her index finger points to the floor
“yes, here. it’s perfect, an empty, flat, huge parking garage, come on!” she looks around, and it makes a bit more sense, so she finds herself shrugging and getting on it, waiting for your instructions to start.
