Publisher Izanagi Games and developer G.rev have announced Enzai Shikkou Yuugi: Yuru Kill, an escape adventure / shoot ’em up game for PlayStation 4 and PC written by Kakegurui author Homura Kawamoto. It will launch in 2020 in Japan.

Enzai Shikkou Yuugi: Yuru Kill will be playable at the Konami booth at Tokyo Game Show 2019, which runs from September 12 to 15 at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. Izanagi Games will also host a stage event featuring shoot ’em up gameplay and guests Shinsuke Umeda (Izanagi Games producer and CEO), Hiroyuki Maruyama (G.rev), and Yuko Komiyama (composer) on September 13 at 12:30 JST. You will be able to watch it live on YouTube.

Izanagi Games formally unveiled Enzai Shikkou Yuugi: Yuru Kill during a stage event on the second day of Tokyo Game Show 2019.

The recently announced escape adventure / shoot ’em up game is written by Kakegurui creator Homura Kawamoto, with character design by Hiro Kiyohara, background music by Yuko Komiyama, and shooting part development by G.rev. It is planned for release on PlayStation 4 and PC in 2020 in Japan.

During the stage event, Izanagi Games producer and CEO Shinsuke Umeda explained the game’s combination of genres. Enzai Shikkou Yuugi: Yuru Kill is separated into two parts, the first being an escape adventure game and the latter being a shoot ’em up. During the adventure parts, you will gather evidence and testimonies, and during the shoot ’em up parts, you must supply the correct answers from the evidence and testimonies you gathered during the conversation scenes that occur during boss battles.

Umeda also emphasized that G.rev, a notable developer of shoot ’em up games, is developing the shoot ’em up parts, so it will be a game that satisfies fans of the genre. There is also a mode where you play only the shoot ’em up parts, as well as difficulty options for players who are not good at shoot ’em up games, but want to enjoy the story.

Here is the official story summary:

Sengoku Haruaki woke up in a jail. A woman wearing a fox mask who calls herself “Binko” says:

“I’ll give you a chance, you imprisoned criminal. You will be faced against the assorted attractions of a certain amusement park, and if you win, you will be acquitted and discharged.”

“You’re wrong, I’ve been falsely accused!”

Rina Azami, the victim of the crime you committed, also appeared.

“Sengoku Haruaki. A name I will never forget. I will never forgive you for killing my entire family.”

Sengoku was jailed as the murderer who killed 21 people in her family.

Naturally, the victim did not believe Sengoku’s claim of false charges.

In addition to Sengoku and Rina, there are four other groups of criminal and victim. The criminals, called “prisoners,” and the victims, called “enforcers,” are paired up to face the attractions.

There are six criminals and five victims. “Mass Murderer Team,” “Twin Murderers Team,” “Strategic Murderer Team,” “Stalker Murderer Team,” and “Peeper Team.”

The prisoners want to win innocence. The enforcers will get what they desire if they win. They can also settle the score.

The setting is an uninhabited amusement park called “Yuru Kill Land.” As you face each attraction, every secret will come to light.

Who will come out on top in the cruel and cunning Yuru Kill Land?

Following the introduction, G.rev’s Hiroyuki Maruyama played the Tokyo Game Show 2019 shoot ’em up part demo on stage. While the demo is of the game’s first chapter, it only features the shoot ’em up part, so the content of the conversation scenes are different, and the evidence and testimony elements are not present. The Outburst Gauge is an important part of gameplay and ties into the Outburst Fire and Outburst Bomb attacks:

Outburst Gauge – Collect materials (the green objects that appear when defeating enemies) to fill the gauge. If the OB Gauge is filled to 20 percent or more, two special attacks become available.

Outburst Fire – Fires homing lasers from the ship. The explosion that occurs when they reach a target will destroy enemy bullets. Firing will slowly consume the OB Gauge.

Outburst Bomb – Unleashes a wide area attack with power proportional to the fill amount of the Outburst Gauge. Your ship becomes invulnerable, but the gauge will be depleted to zero percent. If used when the Outburst Gauge is at 100 percent, the attack will become a super powerful full-screen explosion.
