Rewatched Yin yang master dream of eternity with my friend. We were both commenting on how often characters are shirtless. Are you a spirit guardian? Ok gotta take your shirt off. It’s required.

She pointed out that the hair demon story is a little out of left field… I do think it just served to illustrate that the Princess/Empress is immortal (“60 years…”) but it’s a little weird that Shouyue was using a demon that personally had a problem with Fangyue… did he not know that?

(Now that I’m thinking about it, maybe it serves as another story to illustrate how someone could harm others for love, just like Shouyue does?)

And we both were trying to figure out the (potential) plot hole which is how did Qingming find where Fangyue was (inside the snake?) to be able to teleport there? Did his spirit guardian who died in the snake allow him to see inside it, thus finding her? Did the Fangyue blade for killing the servant that could locate it allow him to find her? We just established he can’t teleport to places he hadn’t seen before, and I wish they made his ability to find Fangyue a little clearer.

Also, what was Boya gonna do if Shouyue wasn’t doing anything bad? Just let him chop his arm off?

All that said I love this movie, I’ve seen it like 4 times now. The goofy things and plot hole (???) don’t ruin it for me.

P.s. I am sad to report that the English dub changes this line (probably for mouth matching dub reasons, idk):
