Video collection from visiting Yzerfontein earlier this year. Intended a little as video shooting practice and basically thrown together haphazardly in ffmpeg on my laptop with minimal edits, it shows.
Watching it now a few months later, very obvious editing critique is that shots that start and stop in static scenes feel weird, either start moving and end in a static shot or start a move and cut away from it, but that's for when I shoot more video.
Shakes are excusable, this was just my very midrange smartphone. If I had planned this I would have brought a mic to capture clean wind-free audio, as it is most of this is unusable. My brother gave me one of those smartphone gimbals the other day which should be interesting to mess with, so far I find it difficult to coerce into doing what I want but that's mostly a skill issue.
Still an interesting exercise! Video is a very different animal from photography and is useful for different subjects, I like how video works for landscapes and architecture where small motion cues do a lot to convey scale and perspective. Photos are really good for fine detail and there's a reason why I like really close detail shots when I'm doing wildlife, but video captures environments far better.
