One thing I think about on occasion is the implied context of ZWEI and Viola’s intro dialogue. “Do we have to fight?” “Yeah, I guess we do”… it reads like something that would have been reeaaally significant in the complete version of V’s story. It seems to me that the two of them were meant to be enemies for one reason or another but neither of them would know why (or that they had to be) for the period of time they were with each other.

Standing next to Viola, Z.W.E.I. dwarfed her, but his aura was surprisingly humble. He was so much more solemn; sure, there were times when he was very serious, but he was more often than not a carefree soul with big arms and a bigger heart. He recognized the path in front of him, its danger, and most importantly, its uncertainty. As opposed to matching his solemnity, Viola instead showed a sense of sorrow and dread, and Z.W.E.I. surmised that she had seen tragedy on the horizon.

"...That bad, huh?" he asked, not even really needing to specify what, exactly, it was about.

Viola nodded, her red eyes closing sadly. "The future is red, but with the hot crimson of fresh blood being spilled, not the comforting burgundy of wine in a crystal glass. A strong heart dies with not a battlecry, but with a whisper, a choking gasp as it is broken by dishonor. Dishonor, and desperation."

Z.W.E.I. acknowledged it with a hum. "You think you've seen my death."

Viola whipped around, holding Z.W.E.I. by the wrists. "Swear it to me," she said pleadingly, "swear that you will prove me wrong. Fill me with doubt, make me question my second sight for all time." Dewy tears gathered on her long eyelashes. "I want to be wrong, Z.W.E.I.."

Giving her a soft smile. "Destiny will go blind from how hard I spit in its face," he returned. "I'll tear fate itself to shreds if it means that I'll get to see your face again."

Gently cupping Viola's face with one hand, Z.W.E.I. kissed away the tear on Viola's right cheek. "I promise to fulfill my duty to Schwarzwind."

He kissed the tear off of her left cheek. "I promise to fulfill my duty to Soul Calibur."

Finally, he kissed her on the lips. "And most importantly, I promise to fulfill my duty to you."
