7. Something you hate to see in dialogue. 17. How are you procrastinating today?

Something you hate to see in dialogue

Two things come to mind, mostly from recent fics I’ve read, lol

A) A lack of character voice. Your characters shouldn’t sound interchangeable.  Hunk’s word choice and syntax are as different as his hobbies and posture from Keith, whose are different from Lance, ect ect. So often characters are given lines that would just never come out of their mouth and it instantly shoves me out of the story.

B) Tildes. If you don’t recognize the name, these things: ~. I get using them in internet chat speak. But they absolutely do not belong in a character’s dialogue, either. And if you do use it, it should be extremely sparingly and also extremely character specific.

I’m fired up about these currently, but they have absolutely ruined fics for me before.

How are you procrastinating today?

Ironically, I’m procrastinating from cleaning up and work by actually doing my writing.  Yay!

Okay, so I was just skimming through my AO3 bookmarks and saw that “Things SHIELD Never Told Captain America” by tolieawake was deleted. I was hoping to find someone with a downloaded copy because I am so heartbroken I literally cried.

So Allura walks toward her death and in the background Lotor, Honerva, and Zarkon are all huddled together like a caring, loving family. Umm, suuure. Because the removal of the entities from his parents is suddenly going to erase all of Lotor’s anger and bitterness toward them. Or because death means everyone reconciles. Or something, I guess.

Shiro “got over” PTSD. 

Lance is no longer insecure because…not sure why, but the EPs said he’s over his insecurities, too.  

Keith became a leader by leading no one on the back of a whale for two years.

Allura learned how to do magic by “having the power” inside of her the whole time. (Technically, if that were the case, she never had to go to Oriande.)

Lotor just forgiving his parents for abusing him for more than 10k years. 

Yup. That fits with Voltron’s MO. 

…I don’t know what to say. Stories help people to heal, and Voltron just wanted to hurt people, it seems. It was set up to heal -

Shiro’s story was to open up to the other paladins, which is treatment for those coping with PTSD. Instead, he barely talks to his team.

Lance was to embrace his own strengths, but he ends up the second fiddle. Always.

Keith was to learn to rely on other people, yet he relies only on his mother and Kolivan. And a wolf. 

Lotor was to bring peace to the Galran emperor. Instead, his death puts it into chaos.

…did Season 8 drop on opposite day?

F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?

That is . . . an excellent question! Mostly because I immediately ponder how one might determine ‘in’ a fandom. I often don’t exactly leave fandoms even when I’m less active in them - Harry Potter was one of my first to write and post for, 11 years ago, and I posted my most recent fic for that fandom in March, just over 2 months ago.

There’s also Middle Earth, which was a first fannish love long before I was in fandom on the internet and is still one of my dearest ones - if not ever one of my most active to create for. Wee Kalira fell in love with Arda at eight years old. (And it was my very first fandom to post a story for.)

I’m going to put a pin in ‘somewhere between 11 years and 20+ years’ I guess? Which is a very broad range, but you can call it 11ish years if we’re talking about actively creating for fandoms!

M - Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend.

This question is the reason this ask has been sitting here not ready to post for several days, incidentally. >.> Too many thoughts! Too many characters I love who, while not all of them would >.> many of which would be awesome to have as friends!

A thought currently - Keith from Tiger & Bunny, who I am currently writing with, he would be a delightful dear as a friend (honestly he is anyway).

Shiro and Keith both (let’s be real, they come as a set of friends at least) from Voltron!

Rock Lee from Naruto, once he’s all grown into himself. XP Also if I skip around generations, Sakumo . . . Tobirama. X3 All in rather different ways, but yeah!

Zuko from ATLA, fiery determined darling that he is. . .

I could go on I’m sure but have some sleepybrained thoughts on the matter. XD
