Patrick watched as the once happy toddler lost all patience and control. Zander threw himself on the floor, kicking and screaming. Giving Tommy a glare “now look what you’ve done.” Tossing his book aside he scooped up his son “it’s time for your nap” he announced.
“No nap” Zander cried struggling his father’s arms “pway with Unco Tomo.”
Patrick looked at the toddler in his arms then at his brother. Tommy was wearing the same startled expression. “You heard that” Patrick asked sounding as stunned as he felt.
“How could I not” Tommy nodded “but it can’t be.”
“Yeah right” Patrick chuckled “it’s just his way of saying your name.” As he went to put Zander down for his he couldn’t help but wonder what if this was the first hint that their dad’s memories were locked inside this tiny body. How could one mispronounced name cause so much anxiety?
Setting Zander inside his crib Patrick patted his head “you know how to say your uncle’s name.”
The toddler grinned at him. A smile so much like the grin their dad always had when he was teasing them. “Tomee. Tom me. Tommy. To mas. Thomas.” If that wasn’t startling enough Zane giggled adding “dumb ass.”
