Chapter 14 – Advice

Its been a while since I’ve updated this side story. It’s time I bring this up to date with what’s happening in the main story. I had a few more pics I wanted to take but my game decided to crash before I finished so I decided to use the pics I had instead of waiting to get the pics I wanted. Hope you enjoy regardless. "He's ok" Daya said taking the little boys hand "we can play house now. I'll be the mom."

"But I wanted to be the mom" her twin whined.

"Do you want to change the dirty diapers" Daya demanded "or feed the baby?"

"No" she wrinkled up her face in disgust.

"Then I'm the mom" Daya announced "the mom always takes care of the babies."

"Nuh uh" Amara objected "daddy's do too."

Chuckling a little Keenan turned to the others "well I feel like chump cheese."

"Your wife must have diaper dirty a lot" Patrick teased is younger brother's best friend.

Two weeks later Patrick gasped clutching at his swollen belly as the first contractions began. Amara looked up from the table where she was drawing. “I’ll get Papa” she jumped from her chair running to the kitchen. “Papa come quick” she panted “Daddy’s making funny grunting noises.

Brice turned towards his daughter a slight smirk on his face. “What did you say sweetie?” he put the spoon down on the counter waiting for her to respond.

“Daddy’s doing this” she grabbed her stomach moaning like she were in pain

“That baby’s coming” he cried taking several steps from the stove. Stopping he reversed his steps to turn a knob on the stove. “Almost forgot to turn the stove off” he mumbled removing the pot from the burner.

Following Amara into the living room he found Patrick was doing his breathing exercises while clutching at his stomach. “Is it go time?” he asked an ill-advised attempt at humor.

“You better tell her why” Patrick urged thankful for the distraction.

“It's very obvious” he set Amara down after giving her a big sloppy kiss on the cheek.

“Eew papa” she wiped at her cheek a disgusted look on her face “that’s gross.”

“The answer is simple. We have no room for anymore princesses.” Brice grinned down at his daughter as her eyes lit up with pleasure.

“I’m the only princess” she clapped her hands together.

“That’s right” he hugged her close “you’re our princess and we love you very much.”

“I love you too” she squeezed him tight then slipped from his arms to give Patrick a hug and kiss. She ran to the door stopping she turned and smiled back at them. “I’m glad I’m the only princess. It makes me special.”

Ok” he gasped riding out a wave of pain. He could see the disapproving glare Rita was giving him obviously not happy with his decision. Rita could lump it if she didn’t like it. Could see sending Amara away would do more harm than good.”If you stay I need you to do something for me.”

She nodded leaning in close to hear him better. “I’ll do anything you want me to do Daddy.”

“Anything” he asked. When she nodded he continued “I need you to wait for the ambulance and show them inside.” he could see he refusal in her eyes before she answered.

“But Daddy I want to be in here with you” she whined.

“I know baby I know” he grunted with pain almost losing his train of thought. “You said you’d do anything for me. I need you to tell the ambulance drivers where I am. Do you think you do that for me?” He bit down as the pain increased not wanting to scream in front of his children.

“Alright” she nodded. She kissed his forehead before she got to her feet. Without looking back she walked to the door followed closely by her Uncle and brother.

Amara ran for the door at the sound of the first knock. “Uncle Tommy the baby’s coming.” She grabbed his hand pulling him inside the house.

Tommy’s eyes grew large as he took in the scene around him. “I got here as soon as I could” he picked up Caspian who was trying to get Patrick’s attention and crying in frustration.

“The baby isn’t waiting around for anyone” Brice moved to help Patrick to the floor. “We’re not going to make it the delivery room”

“I guess it’s a good thing I came along” another voice said coming into the room.

“Rita” Patrick gasped “I didn’t know you were coming.”

“I wanted it to be a surprise” Rita crouched down between Patrick’s legs. “Let’s see what’s going on.”

Amara was awake before Brice entered her room. She was sitting up in her bed watching a cardinal outside her window. When the door opened the bird took flight much to her disappointment. Turning she smiled brightly at her Papa. “Good morning” she cried jumping up to give him a hug and kiss on his stubbly cheek. “You need to shave” she said stroking his cheek.

“I guess I do” he admitted wanting to kick himself for the oversight He always shaved first thing in the morning before he woke the kids. The only time he hadn’t shaved had been those awful weeks that Patrick lay in a coma. He saw the worry in his daughter’s eyes.

“Daddy, where is he” she jumped away from him running for the door.

“Amara come back here” he called following her down the hall. Helplessly he watched her watched as she opened his bedroom door. He cringed expecting her to scream or cry out. When there nothing but silence he walked the short distance to his room. He stopped, breathing hard he wondered what he’d find beyond the door

“I did a good job telling the ambulance men where you were Daddy” Amara’s excited voice spoke loudly as she looked down at her new baby brother.

“You did an awesome job sweetie” Patrick assured her to her obvious delight. “I’m so proud of you.”

“Can you have a girl next time Daddy” she asked looking up at him.

Shaking his head Patrick turned away before tears could escape his eyes. He was still coming to terms with the awful news himself. There would be no more babies. It did little good telling himself that he and Brice had decided not to have any more children after Caspian had been born. Now there was no choice. His womb had been sealed the moment the child was forced into him.

Seeing the distress on his husband’s face Brice bent down and scooped his daughter into his arms. “There will be no more little girls in our house. I forbid it.” He tickled her until her giggles filled the room.

Gasping she demanded “why not?”

“Why she asks” he turned to Patrick in mock seriousness. He was relieved to see some the distress he saw earlier was gone. Instead a small stiff smile played across his lips
