Ignore me, here’s another zeldvali drabble because I can’t stop thinking about my grad school AU

“What do you mean?” She asked, peering at the report. “The hemiplegia would be contralateral because the clinical presentation suggests that the infarct is in the left hemisphere,” she held it out to him, “and it is.”

Revali’s mouth curved into that smirk that she loathed as he took the paper from her and set it down. He took several steps forward, nearly closing the already narrow gap between them.

“You’re discounting the posterior nature of the stroke.”

“I’m certainly not.”

His beryl-green irises glinted.

“Well, hemiplegia would be a motor deficit. Yes?”

Zelda furrowed her brow at him. While his expression was one of amusement, it veiled something else. Something that she’d seen glimmers of before, just briefly.

It was there when he watched her working alone in the lab or at the café, and it was there that day he’d seen her jogging on campus. She’d ignored it, tucked the notion away and filed it under nonsensical.

And yet, there it was again as Revali’s eyes shifted down to traverse her body, studying her with an insatiable intensity.

His gaze on her practically hummed along her skin, a vibrantly volatile current of heat that she could no longer ignore.

“Yes,” she concurred, the response much breathier than she’d intended. The air was suddenly suffocating, the nearness of him making time slow to a crawl.

“Then one could argue that there may not be hemiplegic complications at all,” he murmured. His eyes flickered up to lock with hers, and Zelda heard her breath involuntarily hitch.

The sudden feeling of his fingers on hers made her stomach flip, her heart seize in her chest. He ran them lazily over her knuckles without his eyes leaving hers, his calloused touch somehow featherlight and gentle.

“What are you doing?” She managed, the words partially dying in her throat when he stroked the underside of her palm.

He chuckled.

“I’m explaining to you what you missed in your report. It’s imperative that you take constructive criticism in order to build on your clinical skills.”

“No, I mean, what are we doing?”

“I don’t know, Zelda,” he murmured, “what do you want to do?”

A beat.

“Does that door lock?” She whispered. She watched his jaw clench as a flicker of something hungry flashed across his face.

“Yes,” he replied, his voice audibly tense, “it does.”

“Lock it.”
