Notes → Nevada takes his students on a field trip to Doutzen’s college where they perform singing telegrams.
Nevada had the event planned for a week now, after coming across the idea by one of his students. When permission was granted by the faculty board and parents, a countdown to the day has begun. Thanks to a few tips from Emory, the boy was able to decide on a song to play for Doutzen. The hard part was finding her on campus grounds and trying to surprise her. Luckily the kids were able to pick the lyrics up to the song fast, and they all enjoyed getting to learn it. Nev figured as a treat they would have a movie day come next week.
That morning they treated the staff to Stevie Wonders, What a wonderful world. Smiles filled the kids' faces as they applauded and on how great they harmonized. It was lunch time by the time they had finished going to room to room and performing a short song, the male ended up buying pizza for his next class. After lunch, the kids piled into a van, eager to leave the school grounds for once. It wasn’t a long drive to the college, but the walk was devasting across the campus grounds. Surely, they had gotten odd looks, but Nevada only greeted them with a bright smile.
They spend the next ten minutes waiting outside of the building where one of Dou’s classes was taking place. During the meanwhile, the boy played some of the kids favorite songs as they sang to pass goers. When students started filing out of doors, they all stood to attention and watched carefully. “Which one is her, Mr. Nev? -- Is that her?” few kids asked excitedly. Though each one knew right away as Nevada eyes lit up, and he couldn’t help but smiled. They all formed at the bottom of the stairs right in sight of the female. He started plucking away at the strings, before counting the students on cue. Nev helped with the first few lyrics to help them along before letting them have at it. The male joined back in towards the end.
“...Some other folks might be,
a little bit smarter than I am.
Bigger and stronger too, maybe.
But none of them will ever love you
the way I do, it's me and you, girl.
And as the years go by,
our friendship will never die.
You're gonna see it's our destiny.
You've got a friend in me...”
The kids finished the last few lyrics as Nevada played the final chords on his guitar. Laughing the boy went to hug Dou, but soon they both got engulfed by the kids. “Happy Valentines Day, Doutzen.” the male beamed before the kids chanted the same in return.

Notes → Nevada gets an urgent call from the hospital about an emergency with Doutzen.
Nevada was perched up against the headboard, book in hand while invested in several chapters of Comanche Moon. All was quiet until the quick buzzing of his phone upon the night stand. It illuminated brightly with a number across the screen that the boy did not recognize, but was a local number. Picking up after the third ring, 'Hello, it this Mr. Nevada Saunders. I'm calling to inform you about an emergency with Miss Saint James; we have her here in New Orleans in the ICU--' It didn't take long for the blonde to jump out of bed and nearly drop his phone from shock. Scrambling to bring himself back to his feet not giving the calling time even to explain. He was yanking on clothes and shoving his feet into a pair of shoes. '-- We're aware that Miss Saint James has been drugged with more than one Date Rape Drug. There also may have been attempted assault and rape.'
The voice was silenced from Nevada ending the call and almost slamming his phone down on the dashboard. Not having time to be pissed off, despite the abundance of emotions that raged through him. Once the truck engine turned over tires peeling out of the driveway. Hitting the stretch to New Orleans, the dial on the speedometer peaking over 90 miles per hour. It didn't matter to him that it would be a possible chance of getting pulled over. All that mattered was seeing Doutzen. Nev's mind flashed back to the night they met, how could he know from that Christmas day his life would forever change. Here he was racing to see the woman he was completely in love with, who had no idea of his emotions. His knuckles grew white from the death grip held on the stirring wheel. The only thing that lingered was silence and the overbearing sound of his heart.
If there were a record for getting from Hallow Grove to Orleans, Nev beat it that late evening. Not even giving himself time to find an appropriate parking space. The boy cursed himself for smoking all those years as at the moment; his lungs felt like they could collapse. "Doutzen-- Doutzen Saint James," the voice croaked almost in a demanding tone. Nev didn't know why but time seemed to slow down the more he wanted to get to her. Letting a doctor fill him in on what happened in the last hour, letting out a sigh of relief when hearing Doutzen was in a stable condition. Though from there it was just a waiting game, one Nev couldn't beat.
He was stopped again by an officer who informed the blonde about the suspects being in custody. "Who are they--" Nev asked. ‘I'm sorry sir, we can not release that information.’ "What do you mean you can't-- they nearly killed her. I deserve every right to know who those fuckers are." It was like someone had taken over the boys body. From the rise in his voice, and the darkness that flooded those blue eyes. ‘Sir, you need to calm down, or we will have no choice but remove you from the premises. Once we can release the information, I will let you know.’ Nev brushed away from the man, realizing there was something-- someone more important he needed to be more worried.
Standing there at the foot of the hospital bed, already feeling the claustrophobic walls closing in. There she was, like a sleeping beauty before him. Monitors, wires, and IV's hooked up as the only soft sound was the beeping of the monitor and Doutzen's soft breathing. Nevada found himself at her side reaching for her fingers as he pulled the female's hand to his lips and gave each one a kiss. Feeling the wetness upon the man's cheeks while placing her hand back to her side. This time Nev reached out to caress Doutzen's cheeks before putting both hands on either side and slowly pressing his forehead to hers. "Doutzen, please-- wake up. Let me see those doe eyes, baby. "
Nevada kept like that for several minutes, their breathing becoming synced as well as their heartbeats. "I love you; I love you," he had been holding onto those words for the longest time. Even if the brunette wasn't conscious of hearing them, they needed to be said. "You've had me in your grasp from day one, from that Christmas night. Every passing day, I've fallen even more in love with you-- I am crazy in love with you, and I have no clue what to do about it." Nev swallowed a lump in his throat, "Seeing you like this is killing me. Come back to me, Doutzen." Slowly pulling away only to tuck a few strands of her hair behind an ear. Watching the female grow more into a deep sleep. Nevada slumped back into a chair beside the bed, hands rubbing across his worn face. Fingers were clawing back into his hair as he let out a weak cry.
It wasn't his intention to fall asleep there in the chair. As the hours passed and Doutzen still hadn't stirred. By the time Nevada woke, it was early morning. Should he dare even look in the brunette's direction all laid up on the white sheets in the white room? Being there in the hospital was suffocating him, knowing Doutzen was in that condition was killing him. To a point where he couldn't handle it anymore. Knowing what happened, seeing her like that. Nev started to push all his feelings back into a hole in his mind, followed by his heart.
"I'm sorry," Nev murmured before walking out of the room. Knowing he wouldn't be returning. Driving away from the hospital, his eyes checked the review mirror almost every second as if there would be some sign for him to turn back. As he grew farther from the hospital and further from Doutzen, Nevada knew he was leaving home behind-- her.
