My friend and I had coffee today while our baby’s sat in their prams and our 2 year olds had a fantastic time in the playground. We call these catch ups #thursdaytherapy and we look forward to them all week. Today’s ended abruptly. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Her son pushed another kid. The kid cried. She straight away knelt down and talked to him and made him apologise to the kid. However that was not good enough for the kids Dad. He announced very loudly to the room more than once different variations of theme along the lines of “its ok sweetie that boy is just a big bully”. My friend was understandably distraught and mortified and straight began packing up to leave as tears rolled down her face. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s what happened next that I absolutely love! Three different Mums that were total strangers came over to pat my friend on the back, tell her it’s not her fault, she’s doing a great job, the guy is overreacting etc. Amazing! Mums having other mums backs 🙌🏻 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I could go on about what a douche the man was and how what he did, publicly humiliating my friend, was actually a form of bullying itself but I won’t because I don’t know his story and maybe there’s a reason he reacted like he did. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Instead I want celebrate and thank those women in Riccarton McDonalds today. They knew it was out of her control. They knew toddlers will be toddlers. Sinfully Delicious vegan gluten free sugar free pumpkin pie. We hosted TG at my house this year. First year without my dad. Was wonderful to have an intimate gathering in my home as the host. I had lots of veggies available and made cauliflower crust pizza and my mom and Aunt also brought some stuffing and cheese cake. Neither of which I had but what I loved is that we all ate and drank and enjoyed the richness of our family. Food can be the center of connection and it can also be what you need it to be. Deeply grateful for my family and how we allow space for each to receive what is needed so we can all have a great time.
