Light is very influential on creating feelings and atmospheres around things, people and events.
“Through lighting we can articulate our outer space/time environment and our inner environment- our emotions”.
These orientations are depending on the control of the two types of shadows, cast and attached. Outer orientation lighting functions include; spatial, tactile & time. These different functions can be used to create scene material. For example, with the time function, you would use a light background as this suggests daylight, and a dark background to suggest nighttime.
Inner functions of lighting include the establishment and creation of various mood/atmospheres. This is done via the use of lighting instruments as dramatic agents.
