i don't care about how anyone pronounces gif and arguing makes me tired. however, if you say that gif should be pronounced with a hard g because it's graphics and not jraphics you had better be pronouncing laser like lass-er and scuba like scuh-baa and so on and so forth or else you have an inconsistent worldview. every time you learn a new acronym i hope you look up what it stands for and pronounce it exclusively based on the sounds the first letters of each word make. if you don't also start arguments when people say layzer going "uh, do you mean lasser? }:J" i'll throw rocks at you
you know that video where the guy condescendingly tells the other guy he’s pronouncing gif wrong? and then says it’s not “jraphics interchange format” therefore it has to be a hard g, and then mispronounces words as “jolden”, “juardians”, etc. just to prove he’s right and jif guy is wrong? i hate it so much! why do we have to act so superior about the pronunciation of a gosh darn file format! it doesn’t matter!
Whether you like it or not, when you say the word G-I-F, especially on the internet, people are gonna talk about it. Some will correct you, some will correct the people correcting you, it’s the same conversation every time. There are plenty of other words that have differing pronunciations across cultures, borders and languages. So why is GIF the word people go to war for?
