After a long and arduous battle with ao3 (desperately refreshing page with scream LET ME IN), I finally read new chapter.

"By Hook or By Crook" @grubus @primtheamazing

I was genuinely afraid for SY, but ended cackling a little bit.

Because we have classical SY here. Jaws or any other horror melody during ZD Pov changed to my little pony opening during SY part.

I have no idea what's gonna happen and what exactly ZD plan here. But I think it would be funny to see Zhao De getting frustrated over Sy! Ming Fan mental gymnastics and denial.

P.s. Also, this phrase: "It’s alright, I don’t see you as the Head Disciple. You’ll always just be Ming Fan to me".

Idk why exactly this sentence caught my attention even before I read the next paragraph. Why does it feel more like: "I'll never see you as someone higher than me. You remain the same people pleaser, seeking any form of leverage or power." than: "Our friendship will remain the same for me." Like his internal pov shows how he sees MF as someone good enough to talk and have good relationships, but certainly beneath him. And then the next sentence boom, yes I was right. Reminded me of backhanded compliments in school.

I think it would be interesting to see how ZD tries to push the right buttons and insecurities in MF, but in the end, he gets different results because SY and MF are different. SY is nervous and gushing, but not for the same reasons. He isn't ambitious and doesn't want to raise to the top. He would stay away from head disciple position as far as he could. But now it's not possible. Both MF and SY aren't first in succession, but SY never felt a need to work his ass off and fight for his place under the sun like MF. So, motivations and pulls ZD would presume, based on MF biography, probably won't work as intended.

hi I binged by hook or by crook in one sitting a couple days ago and I just have to say Zhao de is amazing?? I love him? He’s awful and I need to put him in a microwave??? He’s wonderful, 10/10 OC I wish he was canon

ehehe thank you!! I love my beautiful, awful demisexual son, and I love seeing Prim write him so, so well. I hope you read the oneshots with him as well! They're great :D

Ming Fan hesitates, and then surrenders his hand to Zhao De. Luo Binghe watches as Zhao De grasps it, turning it over to inspect it, scrunching his face up with offense at the disconcertingly deep slices in his fingers and the meat of his palm. He looks upset that Ming Fan was wounded - like someone went and broke his favorite toy.

We are expected to care, when the bastard has nothing to offer us except embarrassment. Shizun likely does not want the brat to stain his reputation and is doing what he can to put distance. The brat can’t even write.”

“But he’s in the sect now. He is part of our Peak,” Cuin Wenyan says with a frown, “how are we to prevent him from ruining Shizun’s reputation?”

Ming Fan hmm’s.

“The way we always handle the unworthy,” he decides, “we will just show him why he won’t ever become better than what he is.”

So anyway I decieded the the older deciples have fancier uniforms bc they are rich nobles who can afford to decorate with the latest Qing Jing trends.
