Just found out how exactly dragon-blooded mages in Cathay got to be "dragon-blooded"
"Dear Asur! You claim to be superior to Men, yet there is not a single instance of a dragon taking an Elvish spouse and producing dragon-blooded offspring. Meanwhile, in Grand Cathay, dozens of such hybrids have been born to humans.
Zhaoming and Xie Xuechen are two of God's strongest soldiers to be quite honest. For realzie, how could they resist her not once but twice! TWICE!!!! Two whole lifetimes!!!!
First Lifetime: I know that my girl here just turned human for a hot second but she knows what she wants okay? 💝Nothing wrong with being a little thirsty! I mean can you blame the poor girl?
Ohhh look at how sad and disappointed our Pearl is! 😮💨Unfortunately for our Pearl, Zhaoming is a decent man. Damn. Shame.
Paperwork!!!!! Seriously????? Wait! Are you being serious? Serious!!! Couldn’t be me, bro! All I can say is that I CANNOT relate.
Second Lifetime: Offical DUTIES!!! Yeah. Sure. Work is ... more important? HOW??!!! Please tell me. I want to know. Xie Xuechen ... ever the dutiful leader. Poor Mu Xuanling, I feel you, girl! I get it. 😭
Demon Lord Zhaoming ... I'm counting on you.
You’re My Only Hope!
Just let my girl have her way with you. Pretty please ... with a cherry on top 🍒😍
This sexy beastie slayed the gods and I don’t even know what he wants to do now. He’s been stewing in the underworld basement for ages without the internet or books so god knows where his mind is now poor baby. I miss that little 10,000 year old minx boy too, he would have been such a perfect underlying but I’ll make do with the twink demon of ignorance or whatever his name is.
And Fate and Miss Pearl are the shit! Their outfits alone deserve a standing ovation. I’m still quite confused over the whole everything in the book of fate is lies that become reality but whatever that will either clear up or stay gloriously incomprehensible forever. Fate is such a cunty king - just look at this man!
Our man Fate has cat energy off the charts too. He’s that Pet Me With Your Eyes cartoon personified.
I’m pretty sure his fur would stand on end if anyone ever tried to put the moves on him. His human counterpart Nan Xu Yue would have at least tried it out once. As an asexual science project, just to confirm.
Also Nan Xu Yue’s perfect little spirit demon secretary is so… I dunno I just love her…
she’s like the exasperated girl who adopted a stray they found behind a fast food joint and have since nearly gone broke paying for all its treatments and medical care and the damned thing still won’t sit in her lap after all this time it just eyes her warily from the across the room. You are a saint, my queen, but you also did it to yourself, ya dig?
Ahhhhh I’m so high off this insane show!
I need all of cdrama tumblr to come to my apartment immediately and watch this show with me. It’s 800 square feet, I’m pretty sure we can all squeeze in if we don’t mind our arms touching. Okay, okay, we do mind so… maybe just half of cdrama tumblr then.
This dude literally just came back from a possibly fatal and definitely a very tiring trip to get a godly weapon so that he can go fight the "deities" the VERY NEXT DAY and what he chose to do that one night is still paperwork and he's even sleeping at his desk instead of getting proper rest in his bed. I've never seen such a workaholic in any drama in my over 2 decades long drama watching career. Not even the ML from The Imperial Coroner is beating him at being a workaholic.
The Blossoming Love on Viki is such a gem of a story. It's easily one of my top 5 costume dramas. Here's why:
Minor spoilers below the cut
1. Every scene matters
The story is not 50 eps like most costume dramas. But so much happens that the writers don't stretch out scenes more than they need to. They make each line matter.
2. Tricking you with tropes
The story again and again throws tropes at the characters that are commonly seen in c dramas(domineering mother in law, overhearing half a conversation, love triangle turns deadly, prophecy, husband and wife hate each other, the Healer is a helpless woman, etc) and then turns it on its head! The mother in law is putting on an act bc she wants to seem cool! The husband and wife are deeply in love and part of it is bickering! The Healer is actually not revealed to be a Healer until the last 5 eps and the man who has been our Healer is not fit for his role at all! Overhearing half the conversation does nothing because our main two characters are so competent!
3. Subtle feminism
Our main female lead comes across as just a sexy, love struck villian in the beginning. But she is motivated by her own wishes, and only some of them have to do with the main male lead. She is shown time and again to be complicated, imperfect, and self assured. When he is not there, she is not helpless, nor is she useless. Their relationship works because she can stand on her own.
Also there are many other subtle things that pertain to other characters, like women n this show don't cover their mouths while toasting, but the men do. I don't know if that is specifically a Chinese ranking thing, but in all the other dramas I've watched, it's the woman who must cover their mouths when they drink and this show is a nice change of pace for these feminist reasons.
3. The acting.
Holy shit everyone in this show did such a fantastic job! There is a section where the main leads must play 2 different characters that are identical in appearance, and similar characters, but are not the same people. And you can tell every time who is who. Some minor characters have their moments of overacting, but when the hard hitting scenes come around, they deliver and you will cry.
4. Time travel
Yeah, not what I expected from this type of drama but it was pulled off so well and honestly the show is better on your second or even third watch because of all the foreshadowing and connections that can't be made unless you know what will come to pass.
5. Kill god
This show's main theme is so anti establishment. The old guard will die off and what will you make of yourself once you take their place? Questioning traditions is how we grow? Just because it is ancient doesn't mean it is the correct, or even the only way. When someone more powerful than you is oppressive, do you comply with their wishes for the sake of peace? When your father is imperfect will you be filial by obeying him, or will that harm you both?
