meng huaijin is an eminently capable, patient, clever schemer and politician assigned to babysit the dumbest royal ever, this guy:

did not expect this coming in but i have very much enjoyed the dynamic between these two. the way the crown prince is so stupid and also weak for meng huaijin. the way huaijin is impatient and yet feels responsible for the crown prince.
also huaijin's a bad guy but let's give him props for being a good older brother to meng zhenzhen
