Day #219 of things I love about WoW:

The Ruins of Zin-Azshari music track. The new Hearthstone trailer reminded me how much I really love all the elven vocals in WoW's music. Next to Nightsong and the Song of Elune, this piece from Nazjatar is easily one of my favorites.

I’ve wanted to try and draw her for a long time and here she finally is, the light of lights and the empress of Nazjatar. (Hopefully this looks somewhat ok.)Character belongs to Blizzard Entertainment. Artwork belongs to me.

 I've absolutely adored the Warbringers Azshara short since it came out almost one year ago to the day! So I felt compelled to model this pivotal moment in WoW lore. Can’t wait to see what awaits in her story as it unfolds in BFA! Modeled & rendered in Zbrush.

Lore Fact of the Week #48

While it’s unclear precisely how long Queen Azshara ruled over the kaldorei empire, there is some evidence that suggests her reign may have lasted anywhere from under 1,000 years to 2,000 years before the War of the Ancients. Although outdated, one source claims that Eldre’Thalas, a city built during her reign at her behest, was founded in Feralas just 12,000 years ago [Page: Dire Maul, World of Warcraft Chronicle Volume I, pg. 95]. If this date holds up, then Azshara must have been queen for at least 2,000 years for the city to have been built when she was the ruler. The Highborne Astrolabe on display in Ironforge’s Hall of Explorers also dates back to 12,000 years ago, but there’s no evidence that it was constructed during Azshara’s rule [Object: Highborne Astrolabe].

A source that indicates her reign may have been shorter, however, is the recent Warbringers short in which Azshara makes a pact with the Old Gods. In the video, N’zoth comments that he’s been watching Azshara for approximately 1,000 years [Warbringers: Azshara, 00:03:01 - 00:03:11]. She repeats his own words back to him later on: “You’ve watched me for a thousand years, so you know what I want” [Ibid, 00:04:32 - 00:04:41]. This dialogue indicates that Azshara has lived, if not ruled, for at least 1,000 years by the time of the Sundering. Seeing as it’s possible that she could have drawn N’zoth’s interest anytime prior to or after her ascension to the throne, the length of time he gives may ultimately not be the most accurate indicator of how long she reigned.
