In Rebirth, Cloud made a promise to return to Aerith, and Cissnei made a promise to wait for Zack. The writers made that very intentional. It's quite an interesting parallel between all of them. Clerith and Zissnei ❤️

Although what I find most interesting is that neither of them actually use the word 'promise' (at least not in the JP, I know Clerith do in the English localisation) - which dovetails very nicely and thematically with Loveless, "You don't have to promise to wait, for I'll know I'll find you here", and of course, No Promises to Keep.
And if you want to talk Parallels . . . Zack also met Cissnei properly on Loveless Street, and was with her in Costa Del Sol . . . I'm just sayin'.
