Now I know in canon most of the Batfam has died at somepoint. But if I ruled it, the only one I'd really keep is Jason(and more like a half death thing), like I understand it's comic book world with incarnations of light and death around, necromancers, zombies, phoenixes.
But, it also feels like it cheapens it if it'd happen everytime.Instead I'd make em be extended hospital stays and maybe partially disabling injuries(not trying to step on Barbaras deal as Orcale, bur you know as human vigilantes that get as horrible injuries as the Batfam do, maybe real physical cost should be a bit of the price of that, still not really certain who would it be)
Anywho going over all that, what do you think the Batfam would do think some fun or sad interactions they could have with their allies and teams(maybe non-canon friendships if you have any of those) instead as injuries rather than their deaths in comic canon? Maybe a bit post the hopsice stay if you like the idea?
death in comics stops feeling meaningful when it becomes a revolving door, and the Batfamily in particular works best when the stakes feel grounded. Replacing “death arcs” with severe injuries or long rehab stays actually keeps things more emotionally consistent.
Long-term injury arcs give you:
Characters are forced to sit with vulnerability, fear, guilt, and responsibility rather than having a magical reset button.
Injuries create downtime and downtime is where the Batfamily actually bonds.
Dick jokes through pain, Jason pretends he doesn’t need help, Tim works anyway, Damian gets stubborn, Bruce gets anxious. Everyone interacts differently and that’s compelling.
Characters can grow from surviving trauma, not from returning from death.
So yeah I think this approach gives you way more narrative potential and keeps the stakes meaningful.
So yeah, I think you could get some truly sweet, sad, or hilarious interactions out of this idea. A post-injury hospice stay would fit them weirdly well.
