Ugh. I hope you said something short and really cutting, like “You’re a deficient human being”. I normally try to be nice to my coworkers when they’re mean to me because everybody has a bad day but I dump on them 2x as hard if they raise their voice.
Because I am the essence of smooth (and this server came at me while I was getting a water break), I managed to get out a surprisingly cool "Calm down" before the kitchen manager cut right between us and started scolding her. Since it was the end of my shift anyway, I just shrugged, told the manager good night and calmly walked away. She was even more furious when I saw her on my way out.
Granted, I have to work with her tomorrow morning, so we'll see how that goes.
I'm a supervisor so a lot of the time I can't say what I really want to when my coworkers are being asses. I gotta be calm and not raise my voice even when I want to cuss them out six ways from Sunday. (Half their bad day at my work is because I'm being "mean" to them by making them *gasp* do their job and not letting them hide or sleep in the cleaning closet or, worse, holding them to professional standards I'd expect of the adults they are.) But when I do have to dump on someone, good lord is it a shocker because they're very used to the polite but pushy supervisor who says please and thank you and all that even when it's busy (and even checks on the dishwasher, who gets dumped on a lot) and they are not at all used to seeing angry me, who is can get very loud and crass and confrontational.
