Like, unless it’s for beneficial legal reasons, I don’t imagine Law and Zoro marrying, but I do imagine them still being committed for however long it lasts.

Sanji calls Law: Trafalgar Lawn as a nod to Zoro’s hair (and to piss them both off), and Zoro becomes Ro—Ro—noa ローローノア　ソ” ロー　ZoRo—, adopting the longer sound that Law’s name has in Katakana. Possibly only applied to the Roronoa.

Ronin way

So I've got a bit of a theory that I just thought about then about Zoro and Law. Law, despite and claims to German-hood, is very Japanese-coded in the manga (but so is everyone!) and I'll refer you to this post rather than blab about it. He's also often presented with Zoro (with tons of others too, but stoically with Zoro (some of the time, not all of the time).

Zoro not looking at all stoic there on the cover of Novel Zoro, but he really is more ronin (wandering samurai) than samurai (except he does have a master, but they're more equal). And Law's parallel is maybe the more underworld side of things that existed hand and hand in the water world etc., and seen with Hyougoro of the Flower in Wano (the yakuza leader), and Moonflower O-Cho. Zoro's boots are very un-geta, un-Edo-period like! Love one piece.

I also love the patterning on either side of their stories , Zoro's like a tatami mat, Law's far more geometric, but also in existence, especially in practicality of hapi coats and so on (but, maybe deeper symbolism. Will have to read the story!) I remember one early translation I read of the first Law novel saying that the Swallow Island boys addressed Law using 'oyabun', I think (could absolutely be wrong). The leader of a Yakuza clan. Similar wording is used for Jinbei. (I mean, Law was a runt, but he had mighty powers).

So both guys carry cursed swords, but Law's is unranked, and that also seems in keeping with moving about with the shadows and the not so overtly 'abide by a noble code' of the samurai. Zoro is not absolutely strict about this either, but works more within the traditions of the idea, having grown up in a dojo and given his clan, etc.

Anyway, just an idea. I know Law's the son of doctors, not born into the role he's adapted too/taken up. But, I also think these two (can) work in tandem this kind of way. In no way is it canon. Just a head canon.

Why do I do this stuff instead of sleeping. *sigh*. Also, I realise that Zoro's novel is ongoing!

I opened with the following for a LawZo hanahaki fic featuring the corpse flower. No wonder the punters stayed away in droves 🪰. It is a love letter, though. They are supportive. It's not all mild body horror.

Zoro belched. Rotten meat drenched in milk curdled via sulphuric fire coated his pharynx and tongue. At least, that's how it tasted. Death by any other name. He'd faced it enough times to know, but hadn't eaten at its table before. Even his sake was off. To survive, animals sensed what was good to consume, or not, and this was not good. Worst of all, he coughed up cluster after cluster of tiny purple stalks. Topped with orange caps, they tapered into orange ovoids. Nami wrinkled her nose and gagged into the crook of her elbow at the spoiled-fish-stink layering the ship after every choking fit, and even Luffy commented. But the flowers wouldn't stop. Flies, then bees, sniffed him out, then Robin, followed by Brook, the skeleton's cane tapping across Sunny's flooring. "Yohohoho! You smell like crewmates six days unburied." Not that Brook

Not that Brook knew. By the time he'd returned to his body on the ghost ship that had been his graveyard home for fifty years, his flesh and that of his comrades was picked clean. Smaller skeletons of—he'd guessed at the time—petrels and gulls lay scattered across the deck. And near those, a few transparent wings, an insect leg or two, and casings. Cradling flutes, guitars and mandolins, the Rumbar pirates should've had a sea burial, wrapped or sewn into favoured blankets or flags. But the ambush had been fierce and their foes' weapons poisoned. Once their enemies had disembarked, Brook's brothers-in-arms greeted their fate with song on their lips, music in their fingers, and toxins in their blood until only a piano was heard. And only Brook heard it. He was glad he'd recorded their farewell; that no scavenger had flown away with the tone dial while he'd circled the world trying to regain access to his remains. Once back on board, Brook had collected the skulls of every lover of music and marine life, and placed them in a coffin for current and later respect. A mustiness had hung in the air then despite the yearlong break. Something to do with the thick fogs of the Florian Triangle. It wasn't pleasant, and so he supposed he hadn't been either. And neither was Zoro lately. The young man rarely took a bath but, presently, liquefied organs held more appeal.

The corpse flower bloomed once every very dark seven-to-ten-years. Kali of the night, and a healer and harmer like her, the flower's stench was strongest in the morning leading into the early light. Heat and human warmth radiated from its core, attracting nocturnal carrion beetles and flesh flies for the twenty-four hours of its opening. The Polar Tang was moored next to the Sunny, and Usopp (and Robin) had let anyone who'd listen know all about the plant invading Zoro's lungs. Usopp lent Law a botanical guide, and it now lay flat on the table in Law's quarters as he heaved up yet another bundle of soft, spongy yellow kernels. He brushed pollen from the cluster on the desk onto his coat, trying not to stain the book. Law's fingers traced illustrations of the plant's reproductive system.

Law would like to say that he was a very patient man. Very, very patient, accommodating, and maybe even kind. One had to be, to survive with the absolute loons he called his neighbors. There was one thing, however, one singular, little thing that Law had absolutely no patience for. One thing where he would sooner drown horribly and painfully instead of accommodate. Someone he was tempted to eviscerate and chop into a million teeny tiny little bits rather than force a polite smile on his face. Roronoa Zoro. That was the name of the man Law wanted to throw into a paper shredder. The name of the man he never, ever wanted to see again. Unfortunately, things didn’t just work out that way.
