Windswept Breakers

Here's an image that originally began its life as a 35mm transparency in the 1980's. It was digitized in the 1990's, and  transformed   yesterday, by the use of modern software programs, into an image with full extended tonality Ala the Zone System.

If you're not familiar with the Zone System of previsualizing the final outcome of an image's tonality, it was made popular in the 1940's through the black and white large format work of  Ansel Adams. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

I hope you find this little informational tidbit helpful and that      you enjoy the photo as much as I enjoyed creating it and then recreating it for you. The Boulder In The Path - A Parable (of sorts)

There it sits. Smack in the middle of my path, blocking my way, this problem of mine. It mocks me, it sneers and reminds me what a failure I'm bound to be in the eyes of my peers, my family and my friends. I loath it, hate it, and detest it, this obstacle in the way of my progress, my goals, my dreams and my success.

I can't push or drag or wish this thing out of my life so I have three choices; I can give up and give in, I can shut up and ignore my goals and dreams, or I can forge another path. The woods are a mystery to me and what lurks there is a great unknown.  What if I get lost? What if I fall and am hurt? What if...and a myriad excuses bubble up inside me, like some sinister acid, as it dissolves what confidence and courage I've managed to muster.

Then a silly  thought meanders into my mind. What if I simply veer off this path I'm on, enter those uncharted woods anyway, essentially forging a different path around this problem? What can really go wrong that hasn't already? I smile inside as this outsider lesson clears away the fog in my head thats been veiling the reality of my situation all along.

It takes more physical and emotional stress for a person to move their mind in the direction of change than to move their feet towards measurable action.  Fear is an obstacle we all face reluctantly. When we finally do we are blessed to blaze a new direction for our self and forge a smoother path which others may follow.- MDD
