angel would you ever rec us some sicilian trap music...might want to expand my music taste a bit 👁️ absolutely 0 pressure though!
oh of course, I’d love to! I don’t have the widest music range, so these are only a few examples of the wealth of artists that sicilian trap has to offer. you might notice a lot of crossover between sicilian trap and neapolitan, as well as some neomelodico influences, since the trend with sicilian music is to emulate what the neapolitans are doing: this means we currently have a plethora of little geolier and rocco hunt clones going around, as well as the great third generation neomelodici (as spearheaded by our catanese king Niko Pandetta). that being said, these are some of my sicilian trap recs!
L’Elfo: more rap than trap, especially in his earlier music, but he’s still by far the most prominent figure in the sicilian t/rap scene! coming from catania, he’s been singing for more than ten years, and I would consider him to be one of the cornerstones of the genre. I first came across him when my friends from provincial catania forced me to listen to Sangue catanese, which, while a bruise to my messinese ego, is quite the iconic song; I also quite like Pi tutti i carusi!
Sciack: you knew I just had to insert him here ❤️ he is the undisputed king of messinese trap whomst we stan, and many of his songs are a bitter satire of the youth and society of messina; this is best seen in his magnum opus and first single, Buddaci (buddaci being a mildly derogatory term to refer to messinesi), as well as the more recent Mah! I also happen to have a friend of a friend who knows him personally, which is one of my biggest claims to fame.
Zooka: a smaller artist, also from catania! he is best known for his features with neapolitan trappers, best exemplified by his most popular song San Giovanni feat. Gisma, which centers the quartieri of san giovanni galermo in catania and san giovanni a teduccio in naples.
again, there are many more talented (and not-so-talented) sicilian trap artists, but these are my favourites, as well what I consider to be a general overview of the genre! I hope you enjoy at least some of these songs, they are my go-tos for when I want to feel like a tamarra di quartiere 💖
I also drew this Zooka recently, today I decided to scan so I could use him as an avatar on places bc I like this one
I doodled Zooka quickly while working on... the third Adventure Zone art in the last fortnight shuddup dont look at me
Wanted to do a bit of digital colouring after my pencil binge last month, picked my boi Zooka for a bit of indulgent fuzz and experimenting with backgrounds (boi may be the wrong term? i have decided Zook is enby, but i feel so comfortable with “boi” thanks to mcelroy content hehe)
