“MOSES”

Hidden away only steps from more popular attractions, few visitors to Rome ever happen across the Basilica di San Pietro in Vincoli unless they’re on a quest to see Michelangelo’s early 1500s masterpiece of Moses holding the Ten Commandments. For the opening of “The Greatest of Them All” show at KGB Gallery, Eric Skotnes, aka Zoueh, brought Moses a little closer to LA art fans. From doing graffiti as a teenager Skotnes went on to study figurative painting under artist Steve Huston before eventually making his way to Art Center in Pasadena. No longer satisfied with simply writing his name he feels a responsibility to send a message with his art, “I want it to be better and deeper.” But that doesn’t mean he’s completely abandoned his graffiti roots, often weaving together letterforms and figures as in this characteristic 2014 piece on Spring St. in Los Angeles. @zoueh_skotnes @kgbgallery
