Love ➡️ Ten Commandments ➡️ God’s Character
The law of love aka the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17) is a transcript of God’s character.
These ten commands are summarized into two parts..
LOVE FOR GOD
1) Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
-Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
-Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.
-Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
-Remember the sabbath day to keep it holy.
LOVE FOR MANKIND
2) Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
-Honour thy father and thy mother.
-Thou shalt not kill.
-Thou shalt not commit adultery.
-Thou shalt not steal.
-Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
-Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house.
“On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” Matthew 22:40
This law is the foundation of God’s kingdom, it shall last forever. For it can never changed or destroyed. “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.” Psalm 119:89
If we love God, we shall keep his sayings. “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” John 14:15
God has given us His grace, in return gives us the ability to uphold His law; not for us to continue in sin but to be free from sin. “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world” Titus 2:11-12
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? Romans 6:16
Let us continue to examine ourselves to see which category we fall under:
-whether of sin unto death or..
-of obedience unto righteousness
“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” Ecclesiastes 12:13
