LIKEEEE he gets so close to death! he loses so many people to it! it’s always right there looking over his shoulder, but it never quite sticks. not for him.

it’s like. okay, so, tubbo is a rock, right? steady dependable the one at your side. he’s tommy’s sidekick and he’s wilbur’s spy and he’s schlatt’s right hand man and he’s l’manberg’s president and he’s just… he’s steady. if something goes wrong, he’ll patch it back up. every time. tubbo’s fucking indestructible, but not because he ever tried to be. he’s tired filed down all worn edges burning quiet angry. and even when he’s angry he’s still the same! he snaps and then he goes back again. doesn’t ever actually break. he’s a rock.

tubbo’s indestructible because a hundred things have tried to kill him before and if they didn’t work, what makes you think you’re so special? tubbo’s gonna live forever on a server where death touches everything he loves. no matter how much it hurts, he just keeps going. he’s indestructible. he’s a rock. he’s still going.

27. favorite fanfic author of the year

this is such a mean thing to ask bc I have so many amazingly talented author friends I wanna shoutout :(

ok. I'll go by whose volume of work I've read the most of. though first I am gonna say if I'm saying this person I gotta shout out two other people. meridies and thanotaphobia are not only great friends of mine but amazing authors as well so if you somehow haven't read either of their stuff go do that rn

but from a completely non-friendship standpoint (ignoring the fact that we were literally in a call for almost 12 hours the other day) my favorite author of the year would have to be eli birdfeet.

I discovered eli's fic Black Honey pretty early on this year before I'd ever spoken to them directly, and I was FLOORED at how well they characterized crimeboys. I'd never seen crimeboys in an au written in a way that was so accurate to the canon dsmp relationship as I have in that fic. eventually, thanks to roxy thanotaphobia I got to meet eli directly, and I started reading more of their works. I just love their writing style. the way they set atmosphere and tone, their use of imagery and word choice—it's so fucking good. they have such a gritty and realistic kind of writing style that gives their fics such a specific tone that I can't get enough of. I've read everything on their ao3 and I'm so excited for their current wip to be finished. they're such a talented writer and I'm so happy I got introduced to their works.

this scene is meant to break your heart. inspiration was drawn from that one tiktok audio (no idea what the source is) where they're like "you have two minutes of oxygen left" "can we make it something happier? cookies?" "two minutes until the cookies are done" that kind of vibe!

tommy is desperately trying to remind himself of his humanity, here. he's trying to remember his home, he's trying to pretend like he doesn't know it's the end.

cadmus is all he has, and even then it's limited. the response cadmus gives is meant to be both cold and comforting- clinical language, use of science, but the last line about homo sapiens is a reminder to tommy that he's human, and is meant to evoke that emotional response!

it's sad. i was sad when i wrote it. it'll probably get sadder. kekw
