When you break down their character stereotypes, Sokka and Zuko actually make perfect sense together.

Like- Sokka is the comedic one. The one known to lighten every mood.

And Zuko is the moody, strung up one. The one who is always serious, never laughs, never lightens up.

So of course they’d work well together. Sokka would help loosen Zuko up, and Zuko would help ground Sokka. These stereotypes are paired together in media all the time. (aka grumpy x sunshine one)

Literally, if one of them was a woman… they would’ve been canon.

Mine is Blue “has a loud/obnoxious personality and uses humor/witty remarks and high self-esteem to cope with trauma and cover up low self-esteem” x Red “has an aloof and quiet personality who is also a (possibly) selfless, stubborn lone-wolf due to trauma/abandonment issues”

Ok so going off this post I have a new Zukka au proposal for the ATLA fandom

I call it Metal Mask Sokka AU (likely to change tbh)

Some time in early Season 2, Sokka is tricked into buying a scam pen (or some other artifact) that will give him “expert knowledge of Earthbending” cause he wants to help Aang. Surprise surprise, the pen actually makes him an Earthbender, wtf???? But every time he uses his powers, a metallic scale appears on his flesh

Even Toph doesn’t know what to make of it. Every time Sokka does something Earthbendy, a new scale appears, and they’re getting dangerously close to his face. We might have two blind bandits on our hands, especially since the powers Sokka got were unnaturally grand

Anyway something something Zuko Alone but he runs into Sokka who’s also going through an “I must leave on my own” arc because he fears the monster he’s becoming

Said monster is a metallic badger mole btw. Earthbending expert of all time

Zuko does not recognize Sokka at first because the scales are covering his face. Other details I haven’t decided on yet 🤷‍♀️ but like, imagine… imagine the tender cradling of the other’s face as their skin is covered in irremovable scars… imaaaaaaagine
