((I finally finished my first story of the "New" Zurga. Its kind of a background origin story thing. I havent written a story in a pretty long time... yeaaaah.))
I have a Warsong heart, I have a warsong heart, I have a Warsong heart.
The young Orc, Zurga muttered the proverb to himself as he reached for the next ledge. Climbing up through the Blades edge mountains. There could be demons anywhere just waiting to feast on some unsuspecting traveler or refugee. The world was so unfamiliar now since its shattering. The world he once called Draenor was now dubbed the Outlands, the shattered remnants of his old home.
I have a Warsong heart, I have a Warsong heart, I have a Warsong heart.
There was nobody, animal or person with him. He was completely and utterly alone, Warsong orcs were usually never alone. Like wolves, they were always traveling in a pack. With numbers they would overrun their enemies. Traveling alone was something alien to him.
He finally reached a plateau of the mountains, rest being the first thign to come to his mind as he has been climbing all day. He poked his head out over the ledge of the plateau to survey the area. He noticed two Draenei having a standoff with a band of five orcs. He quickly put down his head hoping he didnât get noticed by them. He slowly looked over the ledge to get another look. The orcs were backing the Draenei into a corner. The draenei flailed his sword in front of the orcs as a final effort to ward off the threat but it all seemed hopeless for them. The Orcs threw rocks and laughed. They weren't trying to kill them, not yet. Seeing the orcs toying with the Draenei, didnât sit well with the young honor bound orc. He felt compelled to do something about it.
I have a Warsong heart
It wouldâve been easy for him to just sneak past them. The Draeneiâs would serve as a distraction to allow Zurga pass by the orcs unnoticed .A golden opportunity to get to somewhere safe where he could rest for the night. Or the orcs might find him later on and he would meet the same fate these Draenei would. Right now, with everythign that has happened its easier to trust a draenei than an unfamiliar orc.
The other Draenei raised her hands as frost encompassed them. She prepared to cast a spell at the orcs who had them pinned down. Zurga noticed something clutching to her leg. It was a child holding on to her mother.
Zurga began pulling himself over the ledge. He made his decision, heâll help the Draenei. After all you can trust a parent when it comes to the safety of their child. He reached behind his back drawing out the axe his mother had given him, holding it readily in his hands charging at the orcs.
By the time the orcs heard the footsteps it was too late for them. Zurga dug his axe into the side of one of the orcs. The two Draenei saw this opening. One stabbed an orc in the chest with his sword, and the other blasted the same one with fire killing her on the spot.
The largest of the orcs turned to Zurga, swinging his mace with all his might. Zurga although smaller, was exceptionally faster than the towering hulk. He was able to step away from each swing. The hulking orc moved to sweep  his mace across Zurgaâs feet. He hopped back, noticing the swing left the hulking orc defenseless. He leaped back into the fray with his axe raised high, bringing it down splitting the skull of his enemy.
He turned to meet the Draenei only to find two orcs standing over their bodies and the first orc he attacked with his axe struggling to get onto his feet, holding his side. This was bad for Zurga, and he knew what was to come next.
One of the orcs stepped forward chuckling at Zurga. âWhere is your pack pup? a young lone wolf ends up dying alone. What can you do without your Warsong raiders?â He snarled at Zurga pointing at his tabard. âWe drank the blood of the demon and conquered the Draenei. You are not but a pebble to the might of the Horde!â The three orcs began to converge onto Zurga, who could only slowly back away hoping he would get better footing. Then, in a flash, frost encompassed the three orcs freezing them solid.
Zurga thought he was surely dead. He looked behind the formation of ice to see the Draenei who casted the spell bleeding out on the ground. He briskly moved towards her hoping to see if there was anything he could do.
âIts over.. Mahal, my husband could maybe have saved me. He was a Paladin, but now he lies dead and I will be joining him soon too⊠Why did you try to help us. You Orcs have slaughtered our kind and now one tries to save us.â
Zurga motioned towards the frozen orcs âThey wouldâve killed you then when they found me I would be next. Its better to travel in packs, its how we Warsong survive. I had this shimmer of hope that maybe if we defeated them we could travel together.â
she nodded with a painful smile on her face. âArina, come here its ok, were safe now.â From behind one of the rocks the child emerged scuttling over to her mothers side. âDads going to be ok, right?â she looked over to her father's corpse, eyes starting to fill with tears. Before Arina could start crying her mother turned her face away from his corpse.
âArina, you need to be safe, your father and I will not be able to make it but you can..â she weakly turned her head to the orc âOur lives were sacrificed so you could live. Now you must repay us. On your honor you will take my daughter to shattrath city. She will be safe thereâ
Zurga looked at her with pity âShattrath was destroyed⊠its overrun by demons and orcs now. Nothing is left for your daughter there.â The Draenei gave Zurga a faint smile âThe Shaâtar will save us they will give us sanctuary thereâŠâ She looked to Arina, placing a weak hand over her cheek before completely fading away.
Arina didnât cry, deep down she knew it was over the moment they met the orcs. She couldnât believe that she survived. She sat over her mother's corpse petrified with dread âEveryone is dead now, theyâre all goneâ Zurga searched for some words of comfort for her
âThey died for you, they died with honor so that you could live.â Arina didnât respond to Zurga. He put a hand over his brow. What could he possibly say to comfort this child. He could talk about his mothers exile? what about how his father? No, it would be an insult to compare those to seeing your loved ones struck down in front of you.
Before Zurga could even think of what to say, the girl spoke âSo then we go to Shattrath next.â It wasnât a question.
âNo, were not going into some demon infested city. Who knows what's there. Were going to see my brother. Weâll find out what to do next.â
The child scowled âGreat, more orcs. Maybe theyâll kill me too.â
Zurga winced at that idea. He lifted Arina up to her feet âMy brother isnât like those other orcs.. heâs more wise and calculating. Really good warrior and has a very strong sense of honor. He wonât kill a defenseless child.â Truth be told Zurga didnât know exactly what his brother would do.
âFine then, after that you return me to my people. Iâve had enough of orcs.
Zurga gave her a nod as the two walked away "I'll get you there safe and sound. I promise."
Further into the blades edge mountains the two traveled. Little did they know, what lied before them. What adventures the two would share in the years to come.
So a few months ago I had an idea about Re-booting my character Zurga the Orc fisherman who slapped people with fish.
Well, im rebooting him or in other words Remaking the character.
heres some new things about him.
1) He's not going to be a warlock.
2) Fishing will be a small facet, the character wont revolve around it.
3) He will currently be a simple orgrimmar grunt.
4) He's not going to be as Peon-like as he was before.
I am very excited about this, I really wish I was exceptionally skilled in art so I could portray the stories in a comic but I cant so written stories will have to do.
Reason i'm doing this is because as funny and quite and great the character Zurga was, it was cookie cutter and had no depth. Hopefully the soon comming stories I write will be a lot more exciting than some guy slapping some chump with a fish just because he didn't buy it.
