“Don’t just play it… FLY IT!”

Zzoom opens with a stirring BEEPer rendition of the Dambusters theme, but the game has nothing to do with bouncing bombs, destroying industrial centres or racist dog-naming. Instead, your job is protect fleeing refugees by shooting waves of bombers, tanks and submarines.

This is a great little first-person shoot-em-up that presages Operation Wolf with both its pan-around viewpoint and a risk of friendly fire ruining all your good intentions (although a scoring bug means that a few losses net a higher bonus than keeping a clean sheet, you monster). The graphics are simple but well-designed with fluid animation, notably the horrifying sight of the poor stick figure refugees being hurled into the air by bombing raids – or your own bullets.
