i mean maybe this is a stupid question since your tags are so positive, but would you recommend the rivals book? i've heard mixed things and the fact that it's So long is a bit daunting …

hi! if you're a fan of the rutshire world, and the jilly cooper-verse, then i would definitely recommend it! though you do have to be able to put yourself in the mindset of the 80s when it was written, and the type of world it is set in, as it can show it's age (characters like taggie for example are a lot more timid in the book than the show - she is also younger).

i really enjoyed listening to the audiobook version that georgia tennant read, she does a phenomenal job and you can tell she's based her characterisation off the actors cast in the show, so it's a lot easier to follow! she also has read polo (and riders which is coming out tomorrow!!)

personally, polo has been my favourite to read (listen to) so far in the cooper-verse and are great it you want more info on plot points the show is setting up. i really like the world jilly creates and the research she has done which keeps me interested and often listening to the audiobook just makes me feel like i'm watching scenes in my head because it's so descriptive and every character is so easy to identify.

that being said, it's not for everyone and is very dated. i would say if you're a fan of audiobooks, try giving those a try first. you can also jump into rivals without reading riders, but riders has more rcb backstory (but he's pretty horrible lol)
