what is this

the tag replacer lets you find all your posts with a tag and replace that tag with another tag, or multiple tags, or remove the tag. you may find this useful when wrangling your tagging system.

it's really slow / takes multiple tries to get all my posts

for sets of more than 500 posts, we run into tumblr's API rate limits. i'm working on a workaround, but it's part of a larger refactoring project that i've been working on sporadically for 3 4 years.

XKit Rewritten's tag replacer uses a different API and is both faster and not subject to the same rate limits, so right now it's better for large sets of posts. however, it does not retain the order your tags are in.

it says it worked but when i go to my blog the tags are the same

sometimes posts on username.tumblr.com take a while to update- try viewing them on tumblr.com/username instead.

please include as many details as possible, such as: the exact error message (if there is one) or a description of what's happening, the tags you're finding and replacing, and the blog you're using it on. screenshots or screen recordings are great if that's easier for you. i answer these messages privately when possible! you can also submit bug reports on github.

a new mutual aid org, Bridge of Solidarity, has been established in the gaza strip by 17 year old poet yazan mohammed in response to the exploitative practices conducted by some charities and encouraged by the existing charity-based model of fundraising for gaza. according to BoS: "the western attention economy and pity economy plays a large role in who lives or dies in gaza." essentially, people need to make themselves marketable in order to receive lifesaving aid; people who are not marketable die. yazan himself wrote about the damage this can do to one's self image, which you can read here.

after trying for a year to respect his own privacy, my friend siraj was also pressured into posting images of his son's emaciated body in order to gain sympathy from westerners.

we cannot keep forcing people to do this anymore.

here's a declaration of their values from bridge of solidarity's most recent post:

Our organization is against the Western gaze. We refuse to humiliate people. We refuse to force people to take photos. We refuse to force people to take photos with our flyer or logo. People will receive aid freely without being forced to pose. We will respect people's privacy completely. Our principles include autonomy, dignity, sovereignty, mutual respect, and mutual aid.

this org will prioritize giving aid to people without phones or social media, who do not speak english, and who do not have outside support or living parents. these are the people who are not palatable to westerners but who deserve to live with as much dignity as everyone else

🕊️Keep Hope Alive: a Gaza Giving Circle🕊️

Keep Hope Alive is a project that connects multiple families in need in Gaza with a pool of donated funds. Anybody can donate through their Chuffed fundraiser. Funds are then evenly divided on a weekly basis between all 7 of the families that the project works to sustain.

The project was born from the observation that Palestinians are made to share intimate details of suffering in order to be afforded help. Its operations are designed around the following principles:

Support Palestinian autonomy by letting them choose what to share.

Prioritize Palestinians' privacy and dignity.

Alleviate the burden of asking for help. Forced displacement & internet blackouts mean that most of the families can’t log into their social media.

Create reliable, sustained help through regular giving, rather than chasing one-off donations.

The organizer of this project is my best friend in the world and I trust her implicitly. I am also managing bank transfers for one of the individual families connected to the project and can personally attest to their veracity. The specifics of every single ingoing and outgoing transaction are recorded here.

like thats the big thing, regardless of whether or not any of the individual transfem users who get banned Deserved those bannings, pointing out the double standard in where and when terms of service are actually held up is the big thing here. sometimes bigotry doesn't look like giving marginalized people consequences for No Reason sometimes bigotry looks like making sure marginalized people receive consequences for their actions overwhelmingly more frequently than privileged groups. deciding who you actually enforce your rules against is a big way this sort of thing manifests.

i'm rather leery of plugging in my account info to random webbed sites - the 'disconnect' button presumably removes my info from your site, but is there a way to prove that you don't have it?

to clarify, what the tag replacer has access to is not your tumblr credentials, but an OAuth access token.

OAuth is a standard way for a service like Tumblr to allow its users to authorize a third-party app (like this one) to access a specific part of their user data- that's what happens when you click "connect to tumblr". the access token is stored on the tag replacer server and linked to a cookie in your browser (this is called a "session"). this way, only requests made with that cookie will be able to access your tumblr data.

when you click "disconnect", the server deletes the OAuth access token and your session cookie. there isn't really a way to prove that it's gone except by reading the source code.

however, most services that use OAuth also provide users with a page for reviewing which third-party apps they've granted access to. tumblr's can be found under Settings > Apps. when you revoke access from that page, the OAuth access token that the server has will stop working.

Is it possible to search for posts with multiple tags? And then add a new tag (replace existing tags with themselves + new tag) only to posts that have the searched tags?

For example, I have 100 posts with tag1 and 50/100 also have tag2. I would like to add tag3 to posts that have both tag1 and tag2, but not to posts that have tag3. Can this be done? I'm scared to try in case it will add tag3 to all posts with tag1.

yes, this is possible! when you enter multiple tags under "find", it's looking for posts with all of those tags (as opposed to any)

First of all, thank you SO MUCH for the tag replacer! I use it all the time to remove some placeholder tags I use for the queue etc. I have two requests, though I understand if they are not possible. Would it be possible to search tags within a certain time period? And would it be possible to exclude posts that were found? For example, I search for tag x, it pulls 10 posts, but I only want to replace/delete tag x from 7 posts?

Hii! I had a question when I clicked "connect to Tumblr" it asked for permission to access some of my data and to make posts to my account. What kind of data does it want access to and what does it mean by "make posts to your account"? Thanks!

hi! here's a quick overview of what the app does with your tumblr data:

get a list of your blogs, so you can choose from a dropdown

get posts with matching tags, when you enter tags and click "find"

edit tags on existing posts, when you click "replace"

in tumblr's API, the permission to edit posts is the same as creating new posts.

you may also be interested in the (informal) privacy policy, which describes which data is logged for troubleshooting purposes (blog name, find/replace tags, and the number of posts found/replaced)

question. when i replaced a tag all the posts showed up on my blog in chronological order and there is a LOT of cringe in my older posts. it will take forever to get rid of it. how do i fix this

is this happening in the dashboard blog view (/blog/blogname), on the theme view (blogname.tumblr.com), or when viewing just a specific tag? sometimes with large sets of posts tumblr can take a while to reindex the tag pages, that's the only time i've heard of something like this happening. in that case it would resolve on its own
