Jules's Carle Butterfly Art Mini-Fest
So. Y’all hear about the children’s book illustrator who spent last week fulminating against Eric Carle?
You will not be surprised that she has fashy opinions about art. She is absolutely incensed that Carle's books are enduringly popular, which she says is only because they're foisted upon us by "an insalubrious culture." She says Carle's work is objectively ugly and bad, and that children exposed to bad art will grow to be bad people who lack morality, thinking skills, and the ability to perceive true beauty in the world. Yea, there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth, and invective like "deformity," "chaos," "vulgarity," "indoctrination," and "disease." She further deplores Klimt, Pollock, all of modern art, the Bauhaus art movement, gay marriage, and Crayola (for making children's art products with unnaturally vivid colors). She blames it all on "Marxists," of course. She used the R word and a racial slur, of course. Since I am the patron saint of so-called bad art on Tumblr, and I'm delighted to help annoy fascists, I'm here to throw a little party to celebrate Carle's brightly-colored, asymmetrical, disproportionate, "nefarious" butterfly. Grab the nearest box of outrageous Crayolas and make an extravagantly, riotously shaped and colored butterfly. Tag your post #butterflyparty2026 . Tag me, @julcheninred, in the body of your post so I don’t miss it. Tag your pals so they'll jump in. Looking forward to seeing everyone's magnificent butterflies! 🦋🌹
Wonderful 1800 duplex apt. in Rosignano Marittimo, Tuscany, Italy has 3bds, 3ba, 2,368.06sqft, €399,000 / $465,270 approx. USD comes with custom-made furnishings. But the real treasure? The two thousand-year-old caves carved into the rock. At that price, it's a steal.

Worldcat is my bestie and my one true love!! Not only does it tell you what library a book is at, but it also price compares different used book sites against each other for easy view! It's how I got Tarot For the Master for $10!!
Oh, and since I have your attention: z-library (books and textbooks) and sci-hub (gatekept scientific journal articles.) I just ripped a textbook for class off z-library and snatched a required reading from sci-hub. Life is good and education should be accessible at every stage and station of life.

Happy Pride Month everyone! Remember 4 months ago when the CEO of this platform harassed and chased a trans woman off this website just for posting her transition timeline, then chased her to other social media platforms to continue harassing her, and threatened to call the FBI if she continued disputing the multiple dubious terminations of her blogs that did not violate tumblr's terms of service in any way? And despite tumblr staff insisting that the CEO was acting against their interests, the broad transmisogyny evident in the site's culture and moderation policy has still not been adequately addressed?
Remember that staff is continuing to nuke the blogs of trans women even after all of this. Remember this post when they call this site the queerest place on the internet again this month
It's 2 years later. It's gotten worse. Happy pride month.

Outfit inspired by a Brady Bunch episode from 1970*
The character was a non-Brady, a magazine publicist, and she had on this beautiful purple Pucci dress, and I was reminded of that moment (2013?) when dresses like this were popular and available at every price point. I used to have several but got rid of them in a moving purge. I found this one on Posh.
I wore it last month bc I was meeting up with two of my brothers—we hadn’t been together in over 10 years—and a 1970s-inspired moment reminded me of our childhood.
Oh! Also, when we were on the road that day, and I was wearing this outfit, I found these lilac sunglasses at a gas station. Love a good gas station find!

* My friend shared that one of her goals is to ride a donkey down into the Grand Canyon, which I saw on a Brady Bunch episode and I thought she might want to watch it. The goal is in honor of her mom, who always wanted to but can’t now (due to Alzheimer’s).

1. Eating meat is morally neutral 2. There are many ethical ways butchering has been practiced for a long time 3. factory farming is unethical due to the abuse faced in the animal's life, not bc it results in the animal's death 4. Ethically raised and sourced meat is expensive and/or hard to find in many places 5. *there are people who CANNOT subsist on a plant based diet* for varied reasons, largely disabled folks - (allergies/GI disorders that already limit what a person can eat, people in recovery from restrictive eating disorders, people with ARFID and other sensory processing disorders) and people with little money and time on their hands to cook. 6. Vegans who are adamant about animal rights often have a major blind spot as to human rights abuses; the meatpacking industry is terrible for those who work in it, yes, but people are laboring hard for your grains and produce too, often in unethical conditions and for little pay, and Vegans will treat you like you're doing some kinda "gotcha" and spit vitriol at you whenever you point this out 7. It is not Wrong to eat only plant based certainly but when people start acting like it gives them a moral highground it shows starkly how little regard for fellow humans these people have 8. Just because YOU are disabled/broke/etc and can sustain veganism does not give you permission to harass somebody who says their disability or finances prevent it 9. The most ethical way to eat, if you can achieve it, is by buying things with a short supply chain that were grown locally by properly-paid laborers
10. there is currently no way to get vitamin B12 in a vegan diet without supplementing, and vegans have increased risk of nutrient deficiencies unless they meticulously plan their diet and/or take other supplements as well. I don't love the idea of advocating for a wholesale switch to a diet reliant on vitamin/supplement companies' products
11. leather, which is a very useful material for many purposes, is a byproduct of the beef industry. all currently available leather alternatives are plastic, which causes large-scale environmental destruction including but not limited to animal habitat loss (yes, even the "pineapple" and "cactus" leathers- they're processed with so much plastic that they are essentially just plastic by the end). no beef = no leather = increasing plastic dependence. ditto wool, but this is about materials related to eating animals, so. leaving that out for now
adding tags from previous also. All good points!
13. if you have eaten vegan for a long time and then suddenly eat meat again you will probably get sick this is not a sign that veganism is the next step of evolution or a sign from god its a sign that your digestive system has adjusted for a purely plant diet and you need to slow down 14. a farmer eating a former herd or flock member is normal and morally depends on if the animal suffered during slaughtering, not the fact that the famer saw the animal alive
15: Cruelty free is a myth. More "vermin" are killed than livestock, to protect crops both while growing and in storage and shipping. Even if you think invertebrates don'g count for some reason, that's still millions of birds, small mammals, reptiles, even deer and wild pigs in some places, being killed to ensure a good harvest.
16: industrial meat animals bred for fast growth cannot be "rescued." It is far more cruel to keep a broiler chicken alive past its intended slaughter date than it is to actually slaughter it. Its joints will fall apart, no matter what you do.
17: if it's not tested on animals, it will be tested on humans. Being a human test subject is only ever as "voluntary" as paying bills and putting food on the table and a roof over your head.
Some women will never want children in their life in any meaningful capacity. They don't want to give birth. They don't want to adopt. They don't want to be the fun auntie. They don't want to be a godmother. They don't want to work in a field with children. They will never change a child's diaper and don't believe their lack of childcare skills is a problem that needs fixing, because childcare is not a crucial part of the human experience, with billions of people on the planet. They go about their day while only seeing kids out at the grocery store or at the park, and nothing is missing from their lives.
The refusal to accept this is driving a global right-wing backlash movement.
