Healing Pains
The first breath you take after being underwater for an extended period of time burns. The first of anything you do after an uncomfortable situation hurts. But that’s the best kind of pain, the kind that tells you not only did you survive, but you’re healing, The hollow ache that reminds you of everything you’ve felt before it and keeps you acutely aware of the fact that the pain is gone, but doesn't let you forget that it was there in the first place. We all feel that ache. The remnants of pain from something we’ve gone through, but we got through it, and we’re healing. It’s slow and painful, and uncomfortable, but it means we survived whatever it is that needed surviving, and it’s going to be okay.
