I really don’t know why there is this image of showing Zevran as an useless assassin. Yes, he related The Warden some of his lucky accomplishment of first works [remember, he said first, second, third… they were their first ones], they were a bit chaotic, but always got success, showing how capable of any mission he is, considering he survived all that time into such cruel organization which never forgives mistakes. He is lucky, but he is capable too. After DAO, he goes and kill many master from the this organization… you can’t perform that if you are a bad assassin.
You can say, “well, he is like Maric, a lucky bastard”. But Maric had Loghain and Rowan, and who always did the work were those two. He only was the lucky one. Zevran did most of his work alone. And successfully.
Failing at killing the Warden was what he told the Warden later: it was just an excuse to let himself die. He was not even trying hard. He was empty and guilty because Rinna’s death.
I don’t know. For me is amazing and shocking to know that only a single elf, like him, is killing the most powerful heads of the Crows, an organization which controls Antiva, economically and politically speaking. He is dealing with heavy, huge power. He is provoking. And he is still alive.
Certainly, he is more than just a joke of “having luck” :P
