the way my detective just wants to scream at A for putting her through nearly the same exact thing rebecca put her through during her childhood is just...delicious because like...the people that she needed the most in her life just can't express how much they love her until she is at the edge of death and it hurts bc...her brain immediatly goes 'oh. i must not be worh the effort' even though she tries to tell herself otherwise

I can’t wait for twc4 when UB gets told that the detective is no longer detective and is now agent and all us A-mancers will have to deal with A pulling even FARTHER away because now they’re our Direct Superior and of course we can’t have a relationship when we’re working for them that would just be unethical and wrong. (aka it's just part of the excuse for A to self sabotage)

Thinking about the MC and loneliness (on A's route in particular- spoilers for book 3 under the cut)

Just really appreciating how loneliness/isolation is such a theme in this book. Tina's route addresses this explicitly, and it just highlights how bad the situation is if you have an A romancing detective who told Verda/told no one.

Because I just can't get over how, when playing this route, the MC is just— so alone in the game, throughout all of the trauma they are going through. They have a growing friendship with the rest of UB, bt it's not at the level where the MC can ruly talk to them yet; so the MC really only has their love interest that supports them in key moments, and that the MC feels comfortable enough to call and talk about all this with. Even if you have a good relationship with Rebecca, the MC still doesn't know her enough to call her, and she is still hiding things/playing commanding agent rather than mother.

And so, with A especially, the MC is just so isolated. Because A is constantly retreating, reaching out and then pulling back, and how hard that must be, to have the person you care about most and who cares about you leave you when you need them? When the rest of your support network has been taken from you, because you can't share what you're actually going through? How much more difficult it makes it for you to get the perspective and see when a relationship is very unhealthy and you should back out of it/draw your boundaries more firmly?

It's interesting and well-introduced, this isolation, and god, the consequences for an A-romancer in this book were devastating (yep, Tobi ended up confessing and was just left with those feelings and I am not okay). I really am looking forward to seeing how that loneliness is addressed moving forward, because I think it plays directly into what /agentnatesewell was saying about found family before book 3 came out - and I'm looking forward to seeing how the detective's life from 'before' fits into their new life. But hot damn, does it make the ending of the A route kick like a horse.

Her laugh is the first thing about her that caught his attention and that he couldn’t stop thinking about from the moment he heard it and laid eyes on it, so it was this picture of her that he was immediately drawn to. It wasn’t bc she was in the pool in a swimsuit, it’s bc it perfectly captured the beauty of that laugh and her carefree spirit.

Luz would certainly do everything in her power to help every one of her patients. But the reality of the American healthcare system is that sometimes it’s just not possible to, and it saddens and angers her. But she uses that to keep pushing her forward to advocate for better healthcare.

It is canon that Naveen is an unabashed gossip. We also know Ethan is practically his son, and he adores MC. But let's face it, we know those two had to be the source of a lot of gossip.

How do you think Naveen dealt with that?

I’d say Naveen is a lighthearted gossip. It’s been so long since I’ve read OH so I can’t remember what he gossiped about, but in my hc I don’t think he’d gossip so openly about people, especially about Ethan or Luz. They can handle themselves, but if the gossip was relentless, especially about Luz sleeping her way to the top, he’d get to the bottom of it and scare those responsible into never spreading shit about his staff ever again.

Who is more jealous? Ethan or your MC?

This is a touchy subject for me right now for personal reasons, so in my own hc I’d say neither really. I hate male characters who are possessive and think women only belong to them like they’re some kind of property.

Ethan and Luz have a very healthy relationship and trust each other to the fullest. If they’re out in public and someone unaware that they’re a couple flirts with either of them, they politely turn the person down and just laugh about it afterward.

Before they were a couple Ethan would get a little jealous of people who would flirt with Luz because he wished he could be open with his feelings for her. But that was the extent of it.

I can’t help but feel kind of disappointed by the ending in M’s route when he goes to the detective’s room and the way their scene was written if it’s their first time being intimate. My detective and Mason hadn’t even kissed up until that point, so some acknowledgment of that, by both of them, would’ve been nice. It just seemed like it was written for those who’ve already had intimate scenes with M.
