the chaos of connecting ocs... konstantin will be getting more love soon now and there may be mentions of my other ocs @kurjaks and @voidsubstance and @coltkiss, though not a necessity to interact with them. i'm just trying to make a more cohesive set of lore so that i get to love all my blorbinos...

quick question why do i love it when my ocs have entirely rancid vibes and no friends

pleasantville never really seems to be consistent on a map btw. punch in directions on gps? it seems to kind of lead you around in circles through plains and woodlands. you're better off with a physical map, but for some reason? maps seem to have the exact borders a bit off for the town. they're not consistent in different prints. google maps is not reliable either. for a small town, it feels like it takes a bit too long to drive through. the longer you're driving through it, the more you start noticing lingering gazes from the residents. they're starting to get uncomfortable. so are you.
“So why do you live here? You don’t seem like the other weirdos.”
small town gothic.
" i'm saddled with the mortifying burden of being the only pathetically normal person here. " and there wasn't even a droplet of hesitation in that reply. it's been their duty for years, now, working in this little off - the - grid town where things happen that go unexplained, and everyone just accepts it, and moves along, and lives with a persistent anxiety settled at the pits of their chests, beneath their hearts.
countless bodies have been subject to interviews that received no responses when konstantin worked, preparing them for wake, for burial. i wonder what it was this time. i wonder what you'd say if you could share your last moments. was it terrifying? was it the same fate as anyone else's?
perhaps they weren't as normal as they'd initially thought, with so many lives lost privy to their curiosities, to their idle conversation, supine on the mortuary table. " on second thought, " konstantin began, pointedly not meeting her gaze, thumb and pointer fingers absently, gently pinching at a monstera plant leaf where it stood proudly, healthily, life in a room centered around death, settled in the corner. " i guess you could say i'm much better at hiding any uncomfortable habits. " the dead do sometimes tell secrets, but it seems they're keeping mine.

“Hi, where can I find the gas station? I need to get out of here.” :^)
small town gothic.
"Yes... Yes, of course you're running low on gas." It's unfortunate for the both of them; Konstantin doesn't recognize the man. There's disdain when it's an outsider in the area, a strange air that seems to settle over the town when someone who clearly doesn't belong finds themselves passing through. And it's always this: some inconvenience, low on gas, a flattened tire, exhaustion and in need of a night of sleep. It's never a deliberate visit.
Pleasantville is pleasant in the way that it seems docile from the outside looking in, quiet, a population of familiar faces. Somehow, however, everyone knowing one another is not as comfortable as it may seem.
If this stranger were paying close attention, maybe he might've noted the residents' lingering gazes while he drove by, if he'd seen any of them out and about. Konstantin watches him pitifully.
Giving him directions could be sending him off to a strange fate. It could also land him on the mortuary table.
"I'd suggest driving to the next town over, if you think you can make it," they suggest, a little too nonchalantly. "But if you can't make that drive - ... Don't you have someone you can meet in the area? Nearby?"
Okay. Bad call. That could land two bodies on mortuary tables.
"- Never mind. I'm think I'm a lot more worried about how you got here. This town isn't exactly flashing lights, even if it is a stop along the way ..."
