if we get an irina foundation hockey camp montage at any point in s2 i hope it includes a clip of a three year old dropping gloves on ilya and him fully committing to the bit. just straight up dramatics as the kid pummels his kneecaps, dropping to the ice, rolling around calling to the ref (shane) to intervene already (spoiler, he doesn't).

Something I really appreciate about fruits basket is that while Akito eventually does change and improve, the story doesn't suddenly have all of the Souma's be fine with her. The sequel confirms she never goes to the family gatherings. People still hate her for the things she did and the trauma still remains.

Yes she was a victim and there is a tragedy in knowing if she'd had a better upbringing she could've been a better person, yes tohru in all her kindness and love does still meet with Akito as a friend, but the story never paints this ficitionalized ideal where Akito realizes she was cruel and suddenly all the abuse she lobbied is just washed away.

She does to an extent get a happy ending, but it's not a perfect one. I think her showcasing her willingness to change and not expect others to accept her now that she has was actually a smart way to write the story.
