She pushes up onto her tip-toes to place a crown of snowdrops atop Gray's head, clearly oblivious to their incredibly close proximity as she does so. Once satisfied, she rocks back onto her heels to admire her work, a warm smile shaping her painted lips. "It suits you, Gray-san."

As she raised herself up and teetered oh so close to him, he felt himself freeze (ha!), his eyes widening and his heart stuttering. He hardly dared to breathe, because oblivious he was not. She was so close. Close enough that her delicate scent was all he knew. Close enough that it would take only the slightest movements for their lips to meet.

Her touch was gentle as she positioned the light crown on his head, adjusting it to sit just right upon the dark locks. It weighed nothing at all, and yet he couldn’t help but tensing as if it was a great burden. Heavy is the head that wears the crown indeed.

Only when she dropped back again, could he release the tension in his shoulders and allow air to once again flow freely through him. His heart continued to race however, and his eyes lingered on the curve of her lips.

It took an effort to pull his gaze up, but even then, he couldn’t directly face her, his head turning to the side. As if that would somehow keep her from seeing the flush spreading across his skin. Damn it. He couldn’t let her see him blushing like a school girl. He couldn’t let her win.

So he did what any irrational person would do – he pulled her tight against himself in a hug, one hand planted on the top of her head to keep her from peering up at him.

And in reply to her, all he could offer was a sort of unintelligible grumbling, but there was a ‘thanks’ included somewhere.

Her rabbits were getting around again. It was something she'd never actually recognized, considering she was asleep whenever it'd occurred. But alas, there they were; a tiny gathering of fire elemental spirits sprinting about the house like children on a pure sugar rush, zooming in between tables, hopping up on couches, even slipping into her roommates room --- ! Hop, hop, hop; up and onto his bed. Luckily they weren't the type to burn people without their masters direction --- too much.

In the hazy world of his dream, he stood in thedarkness. Alone, but for the knowing that there was something elsenearby. Something fast and impossible to track. Multiple somethings, in fact.Drawing nearer and nearer, and despite how he strained to see, he couldn’tdetermine what they were.

But they were warm.

Warmer and warmer. Closer and Closer.

Pressing close. Like a presence on his chest.

Warm turned to hot.

A burn that jolted him into wakefulness, eyessnapping open.

To see a fiery bunny perched on top of him.

He reacted with a startled curse and aninstinctive shove of his hand against the spirit as he scrambled to sit up. Whatthe hell was going on? It took a moment but, unlike in the dreamscape, he couldsee everything clearly. And god…they seemed to be everywhere.

Rabbits hopped and raced around his room, someeven stopping to try nibble at exposed clothes and the curtains. Fuck.

He gave a growl and the temperature in the roomdropped enough to have the spirits dashing away. A fierce glare set hisfeatures and he shifted himself across his bed to slap his hand to the floor. Icebloomed under his palm and began a swift trail out of his room, arrowingstraight down the hallway and into Jackie’s room.

With eager ears and a decidedly devilish glint inhis eyes, he anticipated Jackie’s reaction to the ice climbing the side ofher bed and how it would burst into a brief hail above her. Serves her right, he thought.

"Leo, you're a man." Aries frowned slightly and looked at him with big eyes, "Please, don't s-say bad things about yourself. Even if it's not direct." Yes, she understood what he meant, but that didn't mean her point still stands. // fuwafuwaramu she just cares about her friends so much X')

A chuckle slipped between his lips as he smiled at her apparent concern.

"True enough, I suppose.” 

He had half a mind to remind her not to let any fondness she had for him blind her to facets of his true nature or that of others. Instead, he dipped his head towards her in a slight bow and gave a grin. “Thank you, dear Aries, from this moment forth, I’ll only talk about how amazing I am. How does that sound?”

Deep in thought about everything and yet nothing, it took him a moment to register Mary’s actions and her words. The touch of her lips on his cheek was a soft echo, fading fast, and part of him wished the contact hadn’t been quite so fleeting. It was out of instinct that he took what she handed him, and it was out of confusion that he stared at it with a slight frown.

Valentine’s Day?

Ah, was it that time again already?

Now that he thought about it, he recalled seeing plenty of gaudy decorations in the windows of shops, advertisements everywhere trying to promote the sale of gifts and chocolates. While he wasn’t against the idea of giving a treat to a ‘special someone,’ he had to marvel at the commercialism of it all. Not to mention the emphasis on being in relationships and not being alone on the day. A date.

The image of Mary on a date with someone else caused a flare of something dark in the back of his mind. Strange.

He pushed the brief confusion and thought aside, another idea swirling playfully to the surface.

“What makes you think I don’t have a date?” he asked, expression a mask of curiosity, “Because I do have one.”

A beat. Another. Then the mask cracked with a teasing smile.

“With Frosch. But don’t pout, you’re invited too.”

once i’ve finished sorting out tags, i will be moving these boys to a fresh blog!

the blog change may come with some adjustments to portrayals and things. i havent finished going through the latest arcs to sort out what im keeping yet but i agree with a lot of what others have said (ie; Blue Pegasus and Saber Not getting crucified, that weird ‘pleasure magic’ not happening etc)

but anyway one slight change will be with Rogue. I’ve been thinking about verses lately and always intended to have a few variations for the sake of Saber’s guildmaster since it varies for many rpers. 

i was going to have the default of Sting as master but ive been thinking about it more and talking with people and I’m more attached to guildmaster Rogue now, so that’s gonna be the default, but there will be a variation for Sting as master and also one more for Jiemma.

in other news, i’ve set up a smol multi for my girls Lucy, Lisanna and Levy @fairybond​ if anyone is interested. im dead tired rn but might work on posting some stuff there

Mary rolls her eyes and clicks her tongue - trying, praying that she looks at least a little bit indifferent, even through the smile she conceals by turning away from him.

❝What!? I’m not! I don’t even know what being jealous is.~❞ She argues back, and if Rogue knowing her a little too well isn’t the dead-giveaway, then her tone certainly would be.

Once she has turned away from him, she busies her hands with anything─from patting non-existent dust off the counter, to refilling her glass of water, which... Really did not need a refill.

❝What do I have to be jealous of anyway? You’re not my boyfriend.~❞ She teases - a familiar, mischievous cackle falling from her lips.

After easing back into the banter they usually get up to, the witch turns and takes a sip from her glass - brief, and once again, needless, because she certainly isn’t thirsty at the moment. 

It’s almost as though she wants to hide her face from him. But she won’t. She will not let him see, and she will not let him win.

❝I’m just curious! ... So, answer! Do you two share a room when you take jobs together? I mean... There’s nothing wrong with that technically, right? We share a bed all the time, and you don’t seem to mind. Or am I special?❞ She winks - still a bit unsure what’s keeping her going: pride, or her adoration for the thrill of almost-but-not-quite threatening to ruin their friendship.

And for someone who is as free-spirited as she is... She certainly does get possessive on occasion. So long as her feelings are compromised, she’s screwed.

And right now, she is screwed, but he doesn’t need to know that.

CANCER, THE CRAB

Celestial Spirits are made to be quirky and comical and I don’t mind that to a degree but I’m gonna take a more serious approach. This spirit has so much more potential than just cutting hair, so here I am giving him more abilities and magic¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Also he does not end all his sentences with ‘ebi’ but does call Lucy that.

In ancient times, on another world, a Celestial Spirit descended and became a goddess of that world, drawing power from the moon and water. A few others followed her, and they gathered human followers around themselves. Inevitably, a sense of jealously and competition grew. One of the other gods produced a son that would challenge the first goddess. Fearing destruction at his hands, the goddess put challenges and obstacles before the son, but he fought through them all successfully. 

One of her followers offered himself to her defense, and she bestowed great power on him. He went to battle for her, but ultimately sacrificed himself to give the goddess more time to prepare herself. To save and honor her supporter, the goddess helped his spirit ascend to the celestial plane, where he was helped by the Celestial Spirit King and was anchored to a constellation.

Later, he and the Celestial Spirits would venture to Earthland. With an empathic, nurturing nature, he would often be called upon to act as counsellor and peacekeeper, but his reputation as a fierce protector also led to frequent calls for his defence skills. He became known as Cancer, the giant crab.

His attacking magic is Celestial Cuts. Before being a spirit, he wielded twin swords (similar to Lucy’s stardress form of his) and was an expert despite not having a desire to fight. As a spirit, the swords are now scissors, imbued with magic that allows them to cut through almost anything. He is able to transform the scissors into different blade styles, even back into swords, and can deliver multiple slices in the blink of an eye.

His defensive magic is Celestial Carapace. Typically, this magic is an invisible barrier/armour around him that is immensely difficult to break through. As his key holder grows stronger, so too does his defensive capabilities. He can extend this barrier out from himself, (the range potential increasing with his summoner’s own increase in magic ability) or cast a shell around his key holder.

He is also associated with growth and has the ability to accelerate the growth of some things (such as when he grows someone’s hair back). His reputation as a ‘water’ sign comes both from his fluid fighting style and the way a flood of water appears if his Celestial Carapace spell is broken.

The interest and penchant for hairstyling came about in more recent generations, after he saw how much a hairstyle could affect someone. He enjoys helping someone feel good about themselves and prefers it over using his blades for fighting.

He has been connected to the Heartfilia line since the beginning, they were drawn to each other due to their empathic and protective natures. He has always provided them with guidance and helped them maintain connections with the other families.

Cancer presents himself as being cool and even tempered, often hiding any troubles he may be feeling in order to focus more on other’s issues. He is deeply sensitive beneath that and is also extremely caring. He can be quite motherly and overly worried at times which can lead to rare cases of him snapping, but he is incredibly loyal.

CELESTIAL SPIRIT MAGE ABILITIES:

The humans who first sensed the Celestial Spirits and formed connections with them all had various gifts of sensitivity, which developed more as they received Celestial Spirit magic.

These gifts could be the ability to sense other worlds and spirits, or in some cases to sense the future or past, or the history of an object. They were also highly attuned to emotions and nature.

As mentioned, certain families would be associated with particular spirits, as those families maintained the temples and relationship of that spirit. Often the family’s innate gifts would align with that of a spirit and the family would develop abilities based on their patron spirit. 

For example, the Heartfilia clan had empathic sensitivity, an uncanny ability to sense emotions and understand them, to relate deeply and in some cases to sense Aura. Their subtle abilities became more defined when they bonded with the spirit Cancer, and they even became able to ease the emotional burden of others in some cases.

The more contemporary Celestial Spirit Mages may have lost some of their family abilities or be unaware of them, but with more training could access them again. Many of the families made records of their bloodline’s abilities or secret arts, and some of these records may still be found.

In addition to the more innate abilities, there are other skills Celestial Spirit mages may unlock through training and deeper bonds with their spirits, such as other celestial spells, combining multiple spirit’s magics/abilities, stardress, and stardress combinations

CELESTIAL SPIRITS & THEIR MAGES:

It’s important to know that the relationship between Celestial Spirits and humans, specifically the summoners, has gone through many changes over the generations. To begin with, Celestial Spirits were once thought of as gods, they were revered and held in awe, with humans making offerings in the hopes of gaining favour.

Certain people or families, born with particular gifts, were the ones who maintained the spirit’s temples and therefore the relationship, they earnt the trust and respect of the spirits, and understandings were reached. Bonds of mutual respect formed and allowed greatness for both parties. Those chosen human lines would later be the Celestial Spirit mages. 

Due to certain families maintaining certain temples, they would become the custodian of a particular spirit, the key passing down through the generations. In some cases, the family line would end, and the key would have to be passed to a different family and one family could end up bonding with multiple spirits, or else the key could be lost at the end of the family line.

Most families welcomed new bonds with spirits, but there would often be a special place in their heart for their patron spirit, so to speak. Many current Celestial Spirit mages may not have learned of their family history and traditions but still understand that a bond of trust or at least respect is needed for the magic to work best, and they view the spirits as friends or trusted allies.

There have been mages who have viewed Celestial Spirits as being beneath them and have treated them cruelly. The mages attitude does not stop them from being able to summon a spirit, particularly if the mage themselves has significant magic power, but they might find that their future generations can not wield the magic.

Due to the Celestial Laws laid during the forging of the keys, Celestial Spirits are unable to kill their key holder, cause their death, or betray the contract or orders given (unless its to save them). Relationships of a romantic or sexual nature between them are also forbidden.

i was gonna use my day off to work on replies but instead ended up writing a whole bunch of celestial spirit stuff 😅 now i just gotta decipher my handwriting and make sense of the rambles to put it into actual posts, though i cant really justify posting a lot of it here (it should wait for my eventual lucy blog) 🤔 but i probably will anyway
