Ianto Jones in Every Episode | 2Ć01 KISS KISS, BANG BANG
Ianto Jones + rare outfits
Torchwood memes 2/2 (for now). Maybe Iāll do a Doctor Who one next though.
Part 1
Not gonna lie. Miracle Day would have been a thousand times better with Ianto there.Ā
And Iām not just saying that because I love Ianto so much (I mean itās true. But I have like actual reasons too). I mean, Ianto always had so much potential, always good in a crisis but there would be other aspects of it too.Ā
First of all, Ianto having to deal with Jackās new mortal zeal (and subsequent whining whenever Jack gets a bruise). Ianto is Torchwoodās (and Jackās) caretaker. With Jack getting cuts and bruises that donāt heal and not really knowing what to do about that because heās not used to it, Ianto would have been there, cleaning up his wounds and taking care of him, for once heād be the one stitching and bandaging Jack up instead of the other way around.Ā
Ianto having to deal with the fact that, for the first time since they got together, heās running the risk of losing Jack for real. Like when Jack is poisoned on the plane? Ianto would have been right there with Jack, torn between holding him and comforting him, and tearing the plane apart to find what they needed to save him, because that is a real struggle for Ianto (remember The Dead Line?). Ianto would have been ten times more worried about Jack (because even when Jack was immortal, Ianto worried and cared about his safety). It would have brought out bad memories for him too, of Canary Wharf, Lisa, Tosh and Owen. Like imagine Ianto telling Jack that he canāt lose him too. Imagine all the emotion that could have gone into that discussion where Ianto makes Jack stay behind and safe because Ianto just cannot lose him, because losing Lisa almost killed him.Ā
When Gwen basically abducts Jack, ready to hand him over to people that might want to kill one of the last mortals on Earth, that would have caused some serious intergroup problems theyād have to work through (adding yet another obstacle to their mission) because yeah, Ianto would have forgiven her eventually because heās a forgiving kind of guy, but it would have taken him time and heād have been royally pissed at Gwen for a while and then Gwen would be pissed at him because it was her familyās life at stake. So they could have had these two butting heads for an episode or two before reconciling. These shows literally thrive on drama. What could be more dramatic than two team members who have been through so much together having a falling out and still carry on? Like, obviously RTD likes this kind of drama since that was basically what Season 1 was all about.Ā
and then you have Jack, whose lovers always die, who always has to be alone and move on, even when he doesnāt want to. Now, Ianto canāt die. Ianto who is arguably the most important person in Jackās many lives (I mean, Miracle Day takes place 2 years after CoE, Aliens Among Us like 8 years, and Jack has clearly not healed from losing Ianto and probably never will. Also The House of the Dead literally says it all. Of all the people, itās Ianto he needed and wanted. Anyway, Jack and Ianto could have had one of their elusive but powerful philosophical talks where they challenge each other; Jack wondering if this is such a bad thing, Ianto not being able to die and Ianto reminding Jack why itās wrong, that the world canāt all be immortal, that he canāt be immortal. Ianto thinking heās not important or good enough to be immortal whereas the world is always going to need Jack. Neither of them saying that they donāt want to live forever if the other person canāt share it with them because even now, they have the same problem: One of them is going to die, and the other will have to carry on.Ā
Ianto and Esther would have got along so well too. Both of them being kindred spirits, used to being in an office but kicking ass in the field, both of them with hearts of gold. When Jack gets shot, Esther could have driven them away while Ianto tried to keep Jack awake and alive (provided Ianto didnāt get deported like Gwen which Iāll admit, he probably would have).
Ianto sassing the CIA because heās Ianto and the CIA would definitely have pissed him off and the CIA clearly read up on Torchwood so they would have used Ianto as leverage as well as Gwen.Ā
Rex and Ianto getting into arguments while planning their missions, but even still, Ianto likes Rex. He reminds him of Owen. Theyāre both headstrong, both of them care more than theyāll admit. Rex saying that Ianto is the only one of the āTorchwood clownsā with a level head⦠until Jack is in danger that is. Also Rex making comments about his and Jackās relationship which like Ianto only ever dealt with that side of being in love with a man in CoE with Clem. It would have brought more light about his feelings on their relationship.Ā
also the struggle of Ianto trying to make coffee when all they have is a shack and a pot because theyāre hiding from the CIA would have been gold. And when Rex brings him some crappy gas station coffee which Ianto would definitely find personally offensive
Man. talk about your missed opportunities.
And then, of course, you have Ianto dealing with the presence of another of Jackās exes, but this time an old man in his deathbed. Thereād definitely be talk of jealousy, but at the same time Ianto would be sympathetic, because he knows itās hard for Jack to see lovers like this and heād always hoped that, if he lived to be old and gray, that Jack would stick around, all the while knowing that he wouldnāt. But now, heās seeing Jack with an old lover and Jack is being tender with him and clearly hasnāt forgotten him. It would have been reassurance and would have brought them closer together.Ā
I donāt know. I just feel like they played theĀ āKill the Tea Boyā card way too soon. Like yeah⦠fine. Jack grieving is a part of him we rarely see for more than two seconds, he buries the pain deep and quick so no one can see it but with Ianto he seems to have trouble doing that. Iāll probably write more on Jackās grieving later because it honestly breaks my heart, but like⦠I just feel like Ianto would have added a lot to Miracle Day story wise.
and yes. I am well aware that this is my completely biased opinion, but I just think Ianto in Miracle Day would have been so much better.Ā
And he would have been super cute with Anwen
Reblogging again because I need a thousand fix-its including him babysitting Anwen, THANKS
see now yāall are getting me started
I feel like, at first, Ianto would be a bit nervous around Anwen. He was about 14 when his sister had her first kid (I think. David seemed to be about 12 in CoE) and so Iām sure he had a bit of exposure but given what we know about Ianto and the fact that young men are rarely raised to show interest in babies, at 14 Ianto might not have been too involved with his sisterās baby.Ā
When Mica was born (she looked 8 at the most I think? Iām not very good at judging ages??), Ianto was in London and growing apart from his family. So he still probably didnāt spend much time with young kids. Even what we saw in CoE, it seemed like he didnāt know how to connect to his niece and nephew and gave them money as a way to compensate.Ā
Obviously, he loves Mica and David and obviously he likes kids, he just doesnāt know how to act around them. Itās hard enough dealing with adults but at least heās usedĀ to that.Ā
So when Gwen has Anwen, and he and Jack go to the hospital to visit, Ianto is terrified. Itās been over ten years since heās dealt with a baby and he doesnāt think heās very good with them. He stands off to the side while Jack is holding little Anwen (because Jack has held a lot of babies in his time) and Ianto is hoping that Rhys and Gwen wonāt notice him hiding back there, but of course the time for that has long passed. Gwen and Jack both manage to get him over and thatās when Ianto holds Anwen for the first time.
After that, he swears they all hand him the baby whenever possible just to see him sweat.Ā
Jack and Ianto go to Rhys and Gwenās for dinner every now and then and Ianto constantly finds himself with an armful of baby. Heās still nervous but of course he loves her because Anwen is such a happy and sweet baby, how could he not?
One evening, Rhys and Gwen are going out on a date night so Jack and Ianto are watching Anwen at the flat⦠but then thereās a weevil sighting and Jack goes to take care of it, leaving Ianto to take care of Anwen all by himself.Ā
and Ianto is mortified. He calls Rhiannon only once and sheās so shocked that Ianto is babysittingĀ and like heās worried for nothing because Anwen is perfectly fine but heās just so worried.Ā
By the time Rhys and Gwen show up to get Anwen with Jack on their heels, Anwen is fast asleep and Ianto looks exhausted but super proud of himself because for once nothing disastrous happened. Jack, of course, teases him affectionately and Gwen praises him because she knows heās nervous around her.Ā
but after that, Ianto isnāt so afraid to hold her or babysit.Ā
Torchwood series two episode one - Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang
IANTO JONES ā 1.03 āGHOST MACHINEā
I think part of why I'm so haunted by Jack / Ianto can be boiled down to Ianto's lines in Cyberwoman.
"Haven't you ever loved anyone" he brokenly asks jack, a plea for mercy. Jack will go on to love Ianto so fiercely it almost breaks him.
"One day I'll have the chance to save you and I'll watch you suffer and die" Ianto proceeds to be the only character to consistently offer jack comfort after a death and not just brush it off, shows pain at jack's suffering and rescues him multiple times.
Like, there's enemies to lovers, and then there is Jack/Ianto.
an underrated moment š
Ianto Jones + Jack Harkness || 2Ć03 TO THE LAST MAN
Torchwood ā¹ THEY KEEP KILLING SUZIE || Doctor Who ā¹ REVOLUTION OF THE DALEKS
Maybe Jack didnāt mention Ianto by name in RotD, but heās still here, if you know where to look. :)
IANTO JONES ā· FROM OUT OF THE RAIN
āIanto is too good for Jackā āIanto can do betterā āIanto is out of Jackās leagueā babes youāre missing the point!! maybe Ianto can do better (debatable), but he doesnāt want to!! heās made his choice!! Ianto said i want my slutty immortal boss from the future with his 51st century pheromones and his sexy, sexy coat and no one else will do, and then he went and got him!! no sense, exemplary good taste, and zero self-preservation, what a lad!! the man exhibited legendary behaviour like that and yāall are second-guessing his choices? show some respect.
