No power on a Sunday means breaking out the forgotten hobby basket while bear played with his ballpit and slide. I need to get better about using my hobby basket. Maybe it’s time for a refresh! Anyone have any suggestions?

One of my favorite parts of parenting is being reminded that curiosity doesn’t require a classroom. Today we listened to a thunderstorm, watched the trees dance in the wind, chatted at our favorite feathered neighbors Mr and Mrs Mallard, and carefully examined a June bug. To him, it was an adventure. To me, it was a reminder that wonder is usually waiting right outside the door.
Suddenly he’s taking on the world with sass and his ‘ractor yelling “bye bye momma” as he drives away… I’m not crying I promise
Sometimes your village is an extra scoop of ice cream for a “momma doing her best from the store down the road.
Sometimes it’s the extra ten minutes in the car while the toddler plays with the neighbors before tackling the mountain of chores that’s waiting inside.
Small things? Maybe. But some days, small things are exactly what keep us going.
Bear stayed home with dad today which means I was kid free for my ride to work this morning…. I didn’t know what to do with myself. I had the whole world of audio at my disposal but somehow not jamming to Elmo felt so wrong. So if you saw me rocking out to Sesame Street without my son this morning, no you didn’t.
"One of the strange privileges of working with children is that you become a witness to beginnings. You meet people before they know who they'll become. Before they discover their favorite subjects, dream jobs, best friends, and future homes. Before they are anything other than wonderfully, unapologetically small."
Reflections on teaching and the privilege of watching children grow.
Until next time, may you find a little wonder in the ordinary.

Left Bear in capable hands and slipped away for the evening. Live music, good company, and a few hours spent remembering that I’m a person outside of motherhood
Not much to report today. Bear and I left Basecamp for the weekend to visit family. Country road walks with auntie seemed the best way to end our long travel day
Rainy Tuesdays after a long weekend… The house is moving. The day is technically happening. Me? I’m still in weekend mode.
“The older I get, the more I realize meaningful lives are usually built from seemingly ordinary things. Soup simmering on the stove. Tiny traditions repeated enough times to become culture. Walks after supper. A porch light left on. A child learning the world one puddle at a time. The sort of things that seem small while they’re happening, right up until you look back and suddenly can’t see your days without them. When you realize they’ve quietly become the foundation of a home”
