Estro Junkies paperback update!

Hey everyone, I wanted to let y'all know that Estro Junkies, currently available on Amazon as an ebook and paperback, and as an ebook on Itch and other storefronts, is now available as a paperback through Ingram!

Cool! What does that mean?

Estro Junkies is self-published. I can't have warehouses full of books. IngramSpark is a print-on-demand service, an alternative to Amazon, through which bookshops can place orders to stock physical copies of my book.

So will Estro Junkies be in bookshops now?

Sort of? I'll be reaching out to places like queer bookshops to inquire if they'd like to stock Estro Junkies, but I'm not a publisher so I have limited reach. However, if you inquire at your local bookshop, they can probably order you a copy of Estro Junkies, and maybe even stock a couple if they like it. Also, if you have any suggestions for bookshops I can reach out to who might be interested in stocking Estro Junkies, I'd be happy to hear them.

there's a part in the end of estro junkies where rashmi describes a dream she had as a kid, and i won't describe it so you can experience it for yourself but it's beautiful 😭 i have a dream story too, though it's not as moving lol. i was about 8 or 9, and i didn't really look any different (though hilariously i was wearing a colorful plaid jacket i had at the time), but i knew i wasn't a boy or a girl in the way that you just know things in dreams, and i was going on a date with a girl from my class to get ice cream. but i didn't grasp the significance of this at the time so i just thought "huh, odd" and moved on with my day lol

Got around to reading ch34... few thoughts:

1: i was kinda blindsided by how cute and satisfying it was to see rupali & Rashmi actually being a couple... it's so nice seeing them finally get to love one another fully and unabashedly. I sure hope nothing bad happens to them!

2: oh goddess Katherine no... i was defending you two weeks ago you can't blame Rupali for your crash out.

the amount of time the novel has spent on rashmi's feelings about her engagement really makes it clear, even before rashmi says it, that the wedding costume mona puts together is not only racist orientalist nonsense but also surely triggering for rashmi, which really goes to show how little mona really thinks about her feelings

this book has a remarkably happy ending for what it is! rashmi finally accepts herself and gets together with rupali, katherine manages to break up with nichole, and even mona has a quite cordial breakup with rashmi and seems like she's on track to start making amends for her mistakes! aaaand nichole's at rock bottom but where else would she be?

when i tell you some of you are the worst type of ppl, i truly mean that. The point of a society or at least a huge part of why society is a thing is to group people into categories where there isn’t so much ambiguity no one knows who’s who. The importance of this is everyone knows what they are and what role they’ll function in in their society. And this isn’t me saying that im in 💯 agreement with the govt and all the fuckshit they’ve done in the way people have been grouped historically but like some of y’all just want full ambiguity, no rules, no accountability, no logic to how anything works/operate, just vibes. And guess what, that’s now how society works. It just isn’t. So yes the gov’t has every right to group people into the SEX that they’re born into. Transness isn’t an actual thing dumb dumb. There are only 2 genders: male & female. This is BIOLOGICAL FACT!!! End of story!!

Think tanks explicitly founded to "abolish transgenderism" will publish a report that's like "there's no evidence that trans healthcare works if you ignore all the evidence" and be taken seriously, meanwhile actual researchers go "there's seriously NO evidence that gatekeeping helps" and get ignored

Like on the one hand there's new papers each year going "So it turns out that there's literally no fucking reason to restrict transition access based on these arbitrary criteria, and in fact, they were explicitly made up by some Danish fuck because he was personally obsessed with the idea that trans people were demons, and as it turns out the only measurable impacts of this policy are to increase risks to the patient" that have no impact on the healthcare systems they're criticizing whatsoever.

And then, on the other hand, you've got "Shockingly, this life-altering treatment that massively impacts how the patient is perceived by others in all facets of life is primarily supported by observational studies, as opposed to the enormous violations of bodily autonomy and human dignity necessary to perform a true randomized control trial. We recommend that treatment ceases immediately because you don't understand how evidence-based medicine works." And that becomes a linchpin of the politics of multiple European countries' trans healthcare politics for the next several years.

It's fucking clown world. Nobody who enabled this should be in a position of any power whatsoever.

One thing that I am particularly growing to love about how RCBG is written is that every throw away detail return in a glorious reflection later. Such as how Kathy and Rashmi discuss how bad a crash-into-each-other meet-cute would be irl, followed by Emmy and Mona having that exact type of meet-cute. Followed by a real kiss amidst fake-dating, another earlier trope from the romcom watching.

I think rcbg and estro junkies is the first time i've really related to and understood. People in fandom going batshit over characters and doing the literary analysis, but uhm yeah I'm gnawing on wood or whatever the saying is. I think I get it. I just finished EJ and I wanna print it out and read it again with a pen highlighter and notepad and write a mediocre highschool rapport on it.
