Freyja leaned over on the counter and began tapping her fingers on the surface. She placed her elbow on the counter, resting her head on her hand and let out a sigh. She hated when her mind was constantly running through thoughts. Sad thoughts, negative thoughts. She chewed on the inside of her cheek as she glanced down at the surface of the counter. She leaned down, opened her mouth, and blew hot air on the surface of the table. It created precipitation where she then took her finger and drew a sad face. It didnât last long, but it was there, nonetheless.Â
âIâm the same.â Freyja said quietly as she ran her fingers along the counter, trying to distract herself. âPart of me feels like this is just a dream. A bad, bad dream.â Warm tears stung at her eyes and she tried to pull them back but it didnât work. The young girl lowered her head so that Talisan couldnât see the tears that she was shedding.
âJuice.â Freyja said as she watched him pour it. âCan I at least get some vodka in that or something?â She asked, trying to smile afterwards but the smile didnât reach her eyes. She was having a hard time with life in general and maybe the alcohol would help her sleep soundly without nightmares.
âI keep having nightmares about how she must have looked.â Freyja said as she pulled the plate towards her and picked up the sandwich. She was no longer hungry but she knew that she needed to at least eat something. She raised the grilled cheese up to her mouth and took a small bite out of the side, getting mostly bread in her mouth. She chewed it slowly before setting the slice back down on the plate. âDid she look⊠was it bad?â She was curious and she wanted to know.
âThatâs not fair.â She frowned as she finally glanced towards Talisan. âI was there. I saw it start. I canât not think about it.â She said, her voice cracking as she spoke. âItâs like⊠itâs all I think about. And then⊠what if I had stayed and helped? What if I had disobeyed my father and stayed?âÂ
Talisan started to clean up the mess he had made. He was glad that he was doing something at least, it kept him busy for the moment which was good because he didnât really want to sit, he needed some sort of activity just for his own sanity. â I wish every day that it was just a nightmare, that weâd all wake up tomorrow and everything would be back to normal.â he said, he saw that she had her head lowered and he was sure that she was crying but he didnât say anything about it.
Talisan had just finished cleaning up his mess when she asked for vodka in her juice, he couldnât help the small smile that appeared on his lips, â Iâm glad you still have a sense of humour, thatâs a good sign.â he said. He considered for a moment before he went and pulled out a bottle of vodka, â Just donât tell anyone I gave you alcohol.â he said as he made his way over to her with the bottle and poured a little bit into her juice, not much, barely a fingers worth, not enough to get her drunk, just a tad that he hoped would help her relax, maybe help her get some decent sleep.Â
Talisan frowned when she said she was having nightmares, he put the bottle of vodka away and then made his way over to her, taking the seat next to hers. â Iâm not surprised to hear that.â he said to her softly, â Itâll take time for those thoughts to get out of your head, it wonât happen over night.â he said to her. He tensed slightly when she asked him how bad it was, he didnât know how to answer that. He ran a hand through his hair, trying to find the words, â It wasnât...â he started, â It wasnât as bad compared to the other victims, but it was still horrible none the less.â he said slowly, quietly, frowning deeply as his memories from that day flooded over him. He looked away from her so she couldnât see his eyes clouding over with them.
â If you had stayed, you wouldâve probably been killed too, you did the only thing you couldâve done to help.â he said, â What happened isnât your fault, you did the right thing by running to get the Elders.â he replied to her, he hated that she was so devastated. â I know its not fair, I know itâs hard trying to process all this, hell, itâs impossible right now I know, but it takes time.â he said, â Iâll be honest, Cuore Mio, this is something youâll probably never fully get over, but I promise you that in time, itâll slowly start to get easier.â he said, â It might not happen for a while, weeks, months, maybe longer, but itâll get better, it will still make your heart break at times yes, but you will be happy again.â he added, â Besides, even though your mom is gone, sheâs still with you, sheâs in there...â he said, pointing to her heart, â I see her in you every single day.â he said.
