i just don’t think we need a helena backstory episode. i feel like if you watched the scene of her swimming and her father watching her eat a single egg sliced into tiny pieces for breakfast, juxtaposed with miss huang being forced to destroy a toy she loved (that happened to be a swimmer) and you didn’t see helena’s entire childhood flash before your eyes, that’s kinda on you.

I’m still listening to the Brisingr audiobook and everyone is really going around fucking with Saphira and Eragon’s relationship, aren’t they?

it’s like:

oromis, Brom, glaedr: eragon and Saphira you should trust each other, know everything about each other, and keep no secrets from each other

also Oromis, Brom, glaedr: Saphira swear multiple oaths in the ancient language to keep important information from eragon, even if not knowing is actively detrimental to his mental health and possibly his safety

Are they trying to make Eragon not trust Saphira??? And it’s so hard on Saphira not to tell him some of this shit

Especially since they are both so young and still building their relationship. Yes they are bonded due to being a rider and dragon, but Saphira isn’t even a year old when she’s pressured to keep things from Eragon. They already had some issues during their training because they were both going through their own growth, and it caused them to clash. Adding the pressure of keeping key secrets from each other and having to spend significant time apart was just more stress.

And I know that this is all there to force them to grow as characters, but in-universe it’s terrible behavior on the part of their mentors.

My favourite genre of relationships are the ones where literally everyone knows that two characters love each other. Their roommates know it. Their parents know it. The five-year-old sister of one of said characters knows it. The head of the local mafia knows it. The owner of a nearby grocery store knows it. The only people who don't know it are The Characters.
